- Emerald Lake - The Activity: A 5.2km loop around the shoreline of Emerald Lake, known as the “Jewel of Yoho.” This mostly flat trail is tackled first to enjoy the lake’s vibrant colors through active exploration, completing the longest trail of the day before the midday crowd arrives.
Duration: 1.5–2 hours.
- Natural Bridge - The Activity: A quick stop along Emerald Lake Road to witness the Kicking Horse River as it carves through solid rock.
- Lake Louise - The Activity: A visit to the most iconic basin in the range. The journey continues along the shoreline to reach quieter viewpoints of the lake and surrounding peaks, providing a better view of the Victoria Glacier and the castle-like Fairmont Chateau. The in-and-out lakeshore trail extends up to 4.6km, with minimal elevation gain.
Duration: 1–1.5 hours.
- Moraine Lake - The Activity: At Moraine Lake, a walk along the forest-lined lakeshore (up to 2.5km return) is combined with a short climb up the “Rockpile” trail (350m each way). This offers dual perspectives: close-up views from the water’s edge and the iconic elevated view of the stunning Ten Peaks and turquoise waters from the Rockpile perch. On the return to Banff, there is an option for a quick stop at Lake Louise Village.
Duration: 1–1.5 hours.
Note: As Moraine Lake Road is closed to all vehicles during the winter season (and to private, non-commercial vehicles year-round), this stop is only available from June to mid-October. The van has the necessary permits for direct access during this period, eliminating the need to change vehicles or worry about shuttle queues.
- Bow Valley Parkway - The Activity: If time allows, the journey transitions to the Bow Valley Parkway for part of the return leg to Banff. This quieter and more relaxed alternative to the Trans-Canada Highway offers a different view of the valley and more frequent wildlife sightings.
Note: Certain sections are subject to seasonal closures for wildlife and to create a vehicle-free experience for cyclists; during these times, the most scenic accessible portions of the route are utilized.
