Excellent combo (Rio and coba) - Really a great outing and experience! We were guided by imelda who made us have a great day. Lots of very clear explanations. A great guide. Rio secreto is a magical place and coba is also amazing in the heart of the selva.
Recommended with teens!

Fantastic Experience - Overall great tour - highly recommend!! Went with my mom (38F, 63F).
Pickup was timely, drive to Rio Secreto was quick. There was a bit of waiting while the guides figured out the groups but we were told we'll be doing the Rio first and then go to Coba. The group was small for the caves and Diana was our guide. Diana was absolutely incredible - patiently helped my mom through the rough terrain of the cave and through swimming in the cool water so she was able to enjoy the activity despite being uncomfortable in water. The caverns are a must-experience, they are stunning! A small Mayan ceremony and a toast with Xtanbentun is included, both were very nice!
The only issue is the photos: While I understand no cameras are allowed due to distractions/safety etc. the friendly photographer made an effort and got fantastic pictures and then we were extorted for $30 per photo, which we refused to pay. If the photos had been $10 per picture, we'd have probably spent $30-40, so lose-lose situation all around. The photographer worked for nothing and we didn't get any pictures of an incredible experience.
Buffet lunch was good with fresh tortillas and drive to Coba was smooth. In Coba, our whole group took the rickshaw option (additional $11) which was good, and Diana was very knowledgeable about the ruins and culture. Main pyramid was closed to climbing (which would have been awesome), but we were told it should open soon. I liked Coba because it was cool to see the ruins within the jungle. Drive back was much longer (3hrs back to Cancun) as we got unlucky with the group needing to be dropped off all around the Riviera Maya but the driver was super nice and apologetic that it took so long (no fault of his). 12hr total trip despite the long drop-offs, well worth the price! Would highly recommend this tour for the whole family, and Diana as a guide!

Great minimally challenging adventure! - This was an incredibly fun, educational, and minimally challenging adventure for a half dozen Sixty somethings!
Allen was our guide and did an amazing job. Words really can't describe the experience. Hike down a little through the jungle, then walk, swim, and crawl a mile or so through the cave while avoiding a myriad of stalactites and stalagmites.
A photographer accompanies each group. Ours, Alexis, took some fun photos. He was also Allen's 'backup', but fortunately he was able to concentrate on photography during our time under ground. Personal cameras and phones are left with your clothes in a supplied locker. Wear your swim wear and bring dry clothes for sure and a towel if you can. They supply the water shoes - use them since the underwater rocks will tear yours up.
Our tour was just over 4 hours from arrival to departure, including preparation and the post adventure lunch. Our cost was around $100 US per person (including wet suit, shoes, helmet, life vest, lock and locker, and lunch) and well worth it.
The six of us are all strong swimmers, but there were a couple adult non swimmers in the combined tour group of twelve. There were a few places where swimming was helpful, but everyone had life jackets and wet suits and Allen helped the swim challenged folks float the couple times the water was over our heads.
The bus travel is broken up into two legs, hotel to the check-in / lunch / gift shop area and another 15-20 minute 'bumpy' van ride to the entrance of the cave. We had a nice Mexican buffet lunch after the adventure and of course we chose to purchase the >100 amazing digital pics Alexis took along the way as well as a few trinkets! I was impressed how well they divided the pics of the six of us from pics of the rest of the tour. Probably some AI involved, but impressive just the same.
All told we were probably away from the hotel a little over six hours for the half day adventure.
Allen is fluent in Spanish and English. He seamlessly explained everything we did and saw in both languages since a few of the folks that joined our group spoke only Spanish and we all speak only English.
Other than as noted above, my main recommendation would be to NOT take a child under 8, at least 12 if the child doesn't swim well. While we all helped each other navigate the rocks and water as needed, the kid will have to be able to traverse both the land and the water by themselves since the parent will be doing the same.
On our tour, there is really no way to carry a frightened or unhappy child. The stalactites come out of nowhere and if you aren't playing attention - it hurts, even with a helmet! I honestly have no idea if they offer a more kid friendly excursion.
Bottom line be adventurous! it's very fun, informative, and safe.

Awesome excursion but one important note - The Rio Secreto - Coba trip was great. Our guide Diego was tremendous. The logistics all ran perfectly. One important note - you must be agile and sure/fitted to get to the Rio Secreto. They assured me I would be able to do it - and I could not. My son went ahead and enjoyed the experience but said there was no way I’d be able. He is a healthy 19 year old and even struggled at some points. Coba was awesome and there are rickshaws available with lovely drivers if you need mobility help. Overall, great trip, just go in eyes wide open if you have any sport of mobility issue.

Amazing sites, not particularly welcoming to tourists from the United States. - Coba and Rio Secreto are very impressive. Our tour guide, Jen, was very kind, knowledgable and gave a very informative tour of the ruins and caves. Rio Secreto is a must see and a great way to escape the heat. We do not regret either destination. I will say our day was dampened by the feeling that we were mostly just tolerated because we are from the United States. I understand, given recent policies but it was a bummer to hear employees and our Coba driver complain about us in Spanish right in front of us, unaware that I could understand most of what they were saying.
