Unforgettable Morocco: A 10-Day Journey with Desert Trips - The short version of this review: Desert Trips gave our family memories to last a lifetime. From the moment we landed in Casablanca to the final farewell at the airport right back where we started, they delivered outstanding, highly personalized service. We’ve traveled extensively, but this private tour through Morocco stands out as one of the most extraordinary travel experiences we’ve ever had. From the bustling city of Marrakesh to the history of Fes to the unforgettable camel trek through the desert as a family to the luxury desert camp, this trip was spectacular. Now, the details: WHY WE CHOSE DESERT TRIPS: Morocco had long been on our travel list, but it felt more exotic—and potentially less navigable—than our usual destinations. I read a lot of company reviews. After reading glowing reviews for Desert Trips (they rely solely on TripAdvisor and word of mouth), I reached out and was immediately impressed. Med, the manager, and Khalil, the owner, were kind, responsive, and genuinely committed to creating an exceptional experience from day one. Their attentiveness was particularly reassuring when a health concern arose before our trip—they never pressured us, only showed concern for our family’s wellbeing. That level of care was evident throughout our entire journey. CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE: As we chose the private tour option, we were able to craft our own itinerary with input from the team, and we covered a lot of ground in 10 days: Casablanca, Rabat, Chefchaouen, Fes, the Merzouga Desert, the Dades Valley, and Marrakech, with stops at many scenic and historical sites in between. It was a fast-paced itinerary by choice, and although there were long drives, they were broken up by engaging commentary, panoramic stops, and some sweet surprises. OUR DRIVER: Said, our private driver, was a large part of our journey. From the moment he greeted us at the airport with his towering presence—with a hearty handshake, a big laugh and a tray of Moroccan cookies—he made it his mission to treat us like family. Within minutes, we were learning Moroccan history, and by the end of the first day, my mother-in-law had become “my mom,” a term of endearment he used the entire trip. He was patient with our many questions (and there were many!), sharing insight into Morocco’s geography, climate, and cultural traditions. Said’s deep love for his country—especially the southern region where he grew up—was palpable. Throughout the trip, Said introduced us to local treats like medjool dates, dried figs, and the best orange I’ve ever tasted, bought from a roadside vendor. These moments—while likely planned/scripted —were nevertheless appreciated and memorable. LOCAL GUIDES: Our guide Mehdi in Fes spent the entire day with us and it felt like seeing that amazing city with an old friend. He is warm, charming, and so knowledgeable. We would never have appreciated that city in the same way without him. In Rabat we met Abdel who has a fantastic sense of humor and was also engaging and knowledgeable. Masen took us through Marrakesh and had a history background and a great ability to find the best places in the city to take some excellent group photos of us. We also had a very knowledgeable guide at the Kasbah Amridil, and we enjoyed this visit quite a bit. ACCOMMODATIONS: Every place we stayed was unique—some historic and charming, others modern and sleek. Despite the variability, all were clean, comfortable, and exceeded our expectations given the very reasonable pricing. We didn’t request specific properties, trusting the team’s judgment, and we were delighted at every turn. Our riad in Dades Valley, for example, was newly built and luxurious; others like the riad in Fes, were centuries old and full of local character. A FEW HELPFUL HINTS: • We had two small hiccups: a miscommunication about luggage transport/handling in Chefchaouen and a billing confusion over a meal. Both were handled promptly and respectfully. This company truly wants you to have an excellent experience, and they listen so remember to ask them to clarify any questions you have, even during the trip. I was reluctant to do this as I did not want to create an issue, but in retrospect, it was important to do that as the confusion was easily cleared up and attended to quickly. • Bring tissues/toilet paper with you: not every restroom has toilet paper (a common issue in Morocco, not a reflection of Desert Trips). This is not true of your hotel/riads, just while traveling in some cities. • Be prepared to tip hotel staff, porters, and local guides throughout your stay. Most were excellent, and a few were exceptional—well worth the gratitude. We tipped over the suggested amounts nearly everywhere as the service was quite good. • Entrance fees to the mosque in Casablanca and the Kasbah Amridil are not covered. These are both worth the cost. There are also options along the way to pay some entrance fees on the tours, especially in Marrakesh. We chose to opt out of paying those. The Majorelle Garden cost is fairly high per person. I personally would have just chosen the ticket for the garden only, not the garden/museum combination ticket if I were to do that again. Arrive at the gardens at least 20 min earlier than your ticket entry time as there is a line queue. The company will provide a link to purchase tickets (with a suggested time based on your touring that day) a few days earlier than your arrival in Marrakech as advance tickets are a must. • Expect stops at places like the argan oil cooperatives or rose water collectives. While these are commercial, the quality seemed high, and there’s no real pressure from Desert Trips to purchase. I personally purchased both as I had intended to do prior to my arrival in Morocco. • Walking is a big part of exploring Moroccan cities. Streets are often uneven and involve stairs—Chefchaouen in particular is tough to navigate if mobility is an issue. My 82-year-old mother-in-law managed with grace, but it was challenging. • The breakfasts provided were variable but always adequate. Some were quite good. We all enjoyed them and were grateful that they were included every day. They are very carb-heavy, so if gluten intolerance is an issue for you, make sure you let the company know this ahead of time. This was not an issue for anyone in our family; however, I suspect the company can navigate this issue for you better than you can on your own at the hotels and riads. There were omelets or eggs offered at many places but not all. There were several kinds of bread offered at almost every breakfast. • If you tend to get motion sickness, bring and take Dramamine or something similar. The roads are often very winding and the pace of driving in Morocco can be rather fast at times with switchbacks/passing along the road through the mountains. I think it is much better to have a driver who knows the roads rather than to navigate them yourself, but those prone to car sickness will likely feel it as a passenger in the absence of good medication daily. • Finally, definitely bring a fair amount of cash or have easy ATM access. You will need cash for gratuities, entrance fees in some places, and most meals that are not already covered on your itinerary. There is a high percent fee, sometimes as much as 13% or higher, for ATM withdrawals. Bringing US cash is important as this is a mostly cash society. This is very different than Europe where credit cards can be used nearly everywhere. I wish we had changed over more money earlier to have a little more cash liquidity. We didn’t want to leave the country with too much Moroccan Durham, as you are actually not allowed to do this and we cannot exchange it back in the US for dollars. But there is quite a little dance between having too much and too little cash on hand, so try to anticipate and plan accordingly. The exchange rate is best in cities like Marrakech and Fes if these are on your itinerary. And your driver can recommend places to exchange money as can your hotels and riads. FINAL THOUGHTS: Desert Trips delivered a once-in-a-lifetime adventure for our family of five—my husband and me, our two teenage sons ages 15 and 19, and my spirited mother-in-law. They combine the polish of a professional outfit with the warmth of a family-run business. If you’re dreaming of Morocco but unsure how to tackle it, I can’t recommend Desert Trips enough (and have already done so to several friends). They’ll handle every detail with care, offer you a front-row seat to the wonders of their country, and most importantly, make you feel right at home.

Strongly Recommend DesertTrips/Great Service/ Knowledgeable Staff - We booked a 10 day tour with DesertTrips directly. After seeing one of its tours on TripAdvisor that was close to what we were looking for, we contacted DesertTrips and they (Med) quickly modified things to meet our needs and offered a very competitive price. Khalil of DeserTrips established a connection with us through WhatsApp several days before the start of the tour, made some further modifications to the Marrakech part of the tour to better meet our preferences. He did a great job. Hssaine, our driver did an excellent job to ensure the tour met our expectations and was full of local knowledge. His English was excellent too. We were surprised to be his only passengers in an SUV - we were expecting a tour with up to a dozen others, especially for the price quoted.

Fantastic way to see Morroco - Right from the moment we left the Casablanca airport Saïd took care of us. There was knowledgeable English speaking guides arranged at the cities and sights we visited. The guides and Saïd answered all of our questions. We learnt about morrocon history, geography, geology and its people's. We visited a lot of areas of Morocco and enjoyed seeing the diversity. All the accommodations and meals were fantastic. We definitely recommend Desert Trips for a memorable Morrocon tour.

9D 8N Private Morocco Tour From Casablanca (without accommodations) - Overall Summary: I highly recommend DesertTrips for pre-packaged or customizable trips to experience the highlights of Morocco. DesertTrips and Said made our 9-day/9-night trip to Morocco a most memorable vacation. Booking: I booked directly through DesertTrips as none of their offerings on Tripadvisor had the specific number of days/nights I was looking for and this approach also allowed me to customize the trip itinerary with DesertTrips. DesertTrips was very responsive and flexible throughout this process and adapted the itinerary to our needs. Payment was securely made through WeTravel, with 1/3 of payment made upfront and the remainder paid in full on the day of arrival. The trip we booked was essentially the same as the 10 Days Morocco Private Tour from Casablanca with the exception that ours was 9 days, we removed Chefchouan out of the itinerary, and we booked our own accommodations. Pick-up and Drop-off: Our driver Said and Yousef (last day only), were always on time for any pick-ups arriving prior to pre-arranged times. Driver (Said): Our driver provided us with outstanding service throughout. Driving in Marocco cities can be a challenge, but his experience and safe driving skills made it that we always felt safe. He is very friendly and enhanced our experience by sharing his insights about all the different regions we visited, sharing his knowledge about the culture and remaining flexible to adapt to any request we made during the visit, be it for pick-ups/drop-offs. The recommendations he gave us, and the connections he has in Morocco made our trip memorable throughout. When we wanted to stop for pictures he would do so as well as making recommendations for places and activities we needed to experience such as ATV'ing in Erg Chebbi, and what a blast that was! Vehicle: The vehicle provided was very clean and comfortable and always stocked with bottled water. It was a 4x4 Toyota Prado which had air conditioning. Included Tour Guides: Roman Ruins of Volubilis - Our guide spoke French and English among other languages and gave us a great tour of the site. Having a guide certainly enhanced the visit. Tour of Fes - Our guide could speak over 7 languages fluently. His ability to articulate the history of Fes and bring us to historic sites was above par. We really enjoyed our time with him and you could tell he enjoys his work. Tour of Marrakech - Our tour guide spoke English well and gave us the option for a more cultural visit versus seeing busy well known sites. We opted for the cultural option, seeing different parts of the medina which included a visit of the Marrakech Museum. For some reason, he did not seem all that motivated and the tour ended around 1400 a couple hours short of the intended end of the tour. The tour was good at best but could have been better and more enriching. I felt like I could have done a self guided tour and would have achieved the same. 9 Day Itinerary – Overall, this itinerary is great!! If I had to change anything about this itinerary is that I would have taken the morning to visit the Hassan II Mosque, then travelled to Rabat and would have stayed there on the first night. On our own we visiting downtown Casablanca in the first afternoon and did not find it that great. I think we would have appreciated a little more time in Rabat and this would have lessened the amount of driving on Day 2. Furthermore it would have given us a little more time to see Meknes, Roman Ruins of Volubilis and perhaps have given us time to visit Moulay Idris, which we saw from a distance. The rest of the itinerary is well planned out and there are good stopovers along the way, its not just driving. If I would have had more time, I would have included Chefchouan, and Essaouira.

Amazing and memorable experience! - Had an amazing experience during my 10-day trip, all thanks to Dessert Trips. Every day was well organized and there was little to worry. As 2 ladies, we felt safe with our driver and occasional tour guides. As it was a private trip, we could see everything we wanted and wasted little time waiting for others and had opportunity to customize some of the itinerary. We were able to see so much and enjoy every moment of it. Our driver, Omar, was fantastic! He was punctual, safe in his driving and always ready to provide us advice and information at each location. There are also local guides at certain cities, so we were well cared for. We stayed at accommodations that were amazing, unique with their own charm, and clean. Highly recommend and 2 thumbs up!

“Magical and Unforgettable Morocco 🇲🇦 “ - First and foremost I want to say that Morocco will always have a special place in my heart ❤️. Khalil and his team at DesertTrips planned a beautiful 11 days trip around Morocco 🇲🇦 for our family of 9!!! Our van was a modern 18 seat car 🚗. The locations we stayed at were very traditional Dar and Riads. Some of them full of history and culture (one of them from the 1300’s). The mosaics, colors and traditional furniture at these places were out of this world ❤️❤️. In my most humble opinion The Medina in Fes and Marrakech can be overwhelming to some people and maybe someone will prefer to stay in modern hotels but let me tell you that nothing compares to staying at the real thing!!!!!! *If someone is unable to use the stairs please make sure if it’s possible to stay at ground level of The Riad (they don’t have elevators) Also in the city of Chefchaouen the entire town the streets are all stairs so keep that in mind even though the main square is walkable * Every city has its own charm and uniqueness. From the beautiful Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, to the amazing capital of Rabat, to the magnificent Blue city of Chefchaouen, to the old Medina in Fez, to the spectacular Atlas Mountains, to the Magical Sahara Desert 🐪 with the most beautiful night sky 🌌❤️❤️, to the most gorgeous ruins of Ait Benhaddou and its magnificent Kasbah to finally the bustling city of Marrakech for sure Morocco is a gem of a country. But nothing compares to its people and the warmth we felt everywhere!!! Our driver Assou was the most humble, kind and sweet person we could ever ask for. Always ready to help, an outstanding driver and a great friend. Always ready to translate for us and to bargain with the locals. Always ready to provide us with the best possible service and experience. The highlight of the trip I had to say was the Sahara Desert 🐪 with the Camels and the unforgettable night under the stars ⭐️ in my opinion it is and will always forever be one of my most cherished memories. In each city we visited a private tour guide was provided. Every tour guide was fantastic and very knowledgeable of their own city. The food is amazing. From the exquisite chicken, lamb or beef Tajine with dates and almonds to the couscous with the delicious vegetables and meat to the outstanding Pastilla full of sweetness and salty flavors and let not forget the delicious Mint Tea 😋😋. ****Recommendations for lunch and dinner *** *Casablanca- Rick’s Cafe *Rabat- Any restaurant next to the river/sea ( great seafood ) we went to Marina Palms. *Chefchaouen- The main square has many options for lunch. But at night try to make reservations for Triana (Delicious Food and a Flamenco Show after 8:00pm) This city has a great Spanish influence. *Fes- We had a great lunch at a Restaurant in the Medina with the most delicious Moroccan food- the different types of appetizers were delicious 😋 but I can’t remember the name. At night we went to Restaurant L Amandier at Palais Faraj -Good Choice of Moroccan and Continental food- Also great live music. * At Sahara Desert your Dinner will be included so you don’t need to worry about that. * Marrakech- some friends recommended us a wonderful restaurant “Mizaan”( Great Boeuf Wellington) The second night we went to Comptoir Darna which was recommended by the tour operator and let me tell you that was fantastic. Marvelous food and an unforgettable Belly Dancing Show. All I have to say is that if you’re looking to have an unforgettable vacation and the most exciting experience of a lifetime don’t hesitate and book your trip with this amazing company ( DesertTrips) I assure you that you will never regret it. The best to Khalil his company and lastly to you Assou!! I will never forget you 😊 May God always bless you and your family❤️ Forever Grateful Emixy and Family 🙏🏻

A Trip to Morocco You’ll Never Forget - Desert Trips curated an amazing experience that made our trip to Morocco remarkable. We have traveled to over 40 countries and this is THE BEST service we have gotten. The itinerary and logistics were seamless leading up to our trip, making everything extremely smooth as we got on the road and between each unique stop along the way (DesertTrips providing a more detailed summary of each stop, hotels, etc really made us feel like we were in good hands from the start). It all wouldn’t have been possible as well without our amazing guide, driver, and friend Said O. Said made sure that we were extremely comfortable along the journey, going above and beyond to ensure the trip was as memorable as possible. His laughter, jokes, and ability to read a room made all the difference during the time and will be one of the things we remember most about this trip and experience. Desert Trips definitely made an experience that we’ll always remember. From the towering mosque in Casablanca, the blue city of Chefchaouen, the bustling medina of Fes, calm life of the desert, and the controlled chaos of Marrakech, we were able to get a sense of the Berber people, the influence of the Middle East and generations of trade, and what all it means to be a Moroccan. Thank you for the amazing experience!

Amazing Morocco trip!!!! Don’t miss this one! - If this trip isn’t on your bucket list, you’ll be missing out! We traveled from Casablanca to Marrakech with many stops including Rabat, Chefchaouen, Fes, the Sahara, and the Atlas Mountains. Morocco is beautiful, fun and exciting….but that wasn’t what made our trip special. The people we encountered made our trip! Desert Trips is not a tour agent that will put together a trip and send you on your way. They stay in close communication every step of the way from your inquiry until you are back home safely. Khalil will answer every question you have and will work diligently to ensure your trip is exactly as you want it. He has an amazing staff of drivers and guides that are fully focused on keeping you happy, comfortable and safe for the duration of your journey. Said was our driver, and he is the kindest soul!! We fell in love with Chefchaouen, and he gave us extra time there. He stopped along the road many times to buy us dates, bananas, nuts, waters…even souvenirs. He ordered amazing lunches for us in local spots where he knew the food was excellent. He let us play music in his car, took pictures for us, helped us find trusted vendors to shop with and gave us daily hugs to start our early mornings. Most special of all was when he took us to his friend’s home to eat traditional cous cous. We have been so blessed by the staff at Desert Trips. They are uniquely special, and I would highly recommend a trip with them! A+, a jewel in the rough! Look no further. These are your guys. We will definitely travel with them again and are forever grateful for our encounter with them and all the memories we made. Thank you Khalil and Said, from the bottoms of our hearts!!!
