A Night of Nibbles with Neeshanth - My friend and I met Neeshanth and ended up being about 15 minutes late to the meeting (which we had informed him about in advance). He was incredibly patient and understanding, which immediately put us at ease. Neesh is a fun and personable guide who shared that while there are a few Chennai-specific dishes, this was mostly a Pan-Indian food tour. We began with samosas, accompanied by a dipping sauce that had just the perfect amount of heat. We then tried sprouted mangoes, and one of my favorite moments was when Neesh shared some fascinating agricultural insights about them. Next came a murukku sandwich, which was not only delicious but visually captivating with its abundance of veggies. The denser, richer items like vada pav and uttapam were a bit heavy for me, but I was glad to have experienced and tasted them nonetheless. The saffron lassi was delightful, and while I would have loved to indulge more in the pani puri, I was quite full by then. We finished with some adorable, tasty jalebis and a dessert samosa to round off the night. Throughout the tour, Neesh was kind, wholesome, and very attentive to both my friend’s and my needs. He kindly offered to take our photos on scenic streets and shared some historical background about nearby temples. His enthusiasm in telling us about the neighborhood and how the economy worked, what the lives of the people were like and regular check-ins to see how we were feeling made the experience even more enjoyable. One suggestion would be to include more information about the history of the food itself or the establishments serving it. We were curious about how long these places had been around, whether the dishes were traditionally Indian or influenced by other cuisines, and where the ingredients were sourced. Additionally, upon booking, we didn’t realize this was a vegetarian tour (there is no option to select veg or non-veg) so I would recommend making that clearer in the description. Unsure if it would have affected our decision to book, but we were a bit let down in realizing it while touring. Overall, my friend and I had a fantastic time and loved sampling so many diverse and delicious bites. Just be sure to pace yourself. By the end, we were struggling to finish the last few dishes. Huge thanks to Neesh and 5 Senses Tours for a memorable evening!

Great experience sampling Indian food in a historic part of the city - I took the tour on a Sunday evening in late June. My guide, Satish, was very knowledgeable about Indian food and did an excellent job introducing me to local specialties. We visited a number of different eateries, from street stalls to small restaurants, and at each stop Satish provided background on the dishes and ingredients. His enthusiasm for food and depth of knowledge really enhanced the tour and made it both educational and fun. The tour took us through the historic, bustling streets of George Town, primarily along Mint Street. I tried a wide variety of Indian foods as we walked, from spicy snacks to sweet desserts, getting a taste of Chennai’s diverse cuisine. There was so much to eat - I definitely recommend coming with a good appetite to fully enjoy all the food on offer. Overall, it was a memorable evening that gave me a deeper appreciation of Chennai’s food scene. I would recommend this tour to any food lover visiting the city.

Nighttime street food tour - I enjoyed the great food, and it was excellent having a guide to find the best spots and to avoid unclean food. Seeing the market at night was also very exciting. The guide was also very flexible with starting times, since I was not able to arrive on time due to technical issues.

The best foodie walking tour in Chennai! - We had such a wonderful experience! Make sure you’re hungry when you go. Satish was our tour guide and he made sure that every detail was taken care of. From the delicious food, interesting facts and stories, land marks along the way and engaging with some locals - everything was great. My friend and I were 2 females doing the tour alone and we felt completely safe and comfortable the entire time. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in really experiencing the vibrant and bustling Sowcarpet and enjoying delicious local foods along the way. Thank you to the organizers and guide for a great experience!

More than great food - This walking tour was more than sampling great street food. Accompanied by a knowlegeable and accomadating guide ( Neeshanth ) we experienced all the colour, hussle and bussle, amazing sights and tastes of Sowcarpet. I am more than happy giving this walk the 5 stars as I felt safe and comfortable, able to move easily through a busy and vibrant market area whilst enjoying a variety of interesting food. Best food tour in Chennai - Our guide, Neeshanth, was very personable, friendly & knowledgable; the tour itself meandering through the inner city streets of Chennai covered a host of different street foods, with informative narrative between stopping points. Foods included amazing ginger tea to start, potato samosas, little sweet cakes, Murukku Sandwich which were delicious; a delicious saffron milk drink (Lassi) supplied by a huge retired local wrestler - all the produce of his own farm - my better half insists I mention she doesn’t usually like that type of thing but she found these amazing. We continued to an upstairs venue where we had among other things tiny crispy cups of salad into which we sprinkled onion and hot broth before quickly eating. These too were great. We ended with a crunchy batter mesh with sweet syrup on it. There were other items too (cannot remember everything!). Everywhere was already busy but Neeshanth must have arranged in advance our tour very well as we got seats everywhere. Highly recommend this particular tour to anyone.
