Manta rays and more! - An excellent tour overall with a great group of professional and knowledgeable guides. We had some great swims with manta rays, including a melanistic ray. While the focus of the tour was on manta rays, the other parts of the tour were just as impressive. We snorkeled coral reef that was significantly better than anything accessible from the beach in Coral Bay or Exmouth. We also saw dugong, breaching humpback whales and turtles.

Manta Ray tour - We had a fantastic day, the crew were awesome, super friendly and knowledgeable. We were very lucky to get a good look at a Manta Ray barrel rolling and we snorkelled around some coral bommies later in the day which were full of amazing fish life, an octopus, plus turtles and even a tawny nurse shark. It was an amazing experience.

A wonderful experience - Loved this tour. Felt welcome from the start. Great information. Snacks and lunch were lovely. Nice to meet people from all over the world. Took us to great snorkelling sites. We saw eels, octopuses, turtles, sharks, coral and of course mantas. So lovely to see a manta doing it's thing - figure 8s and barrel rolls! The company is very respectful to the coral and all that live amongst it. The crew seemed just as excited as we were.
Thank you for a brilliant day. Laura's photos are sensational. 😊

No better way to experience the Ningaloo than with a manta ray tour with coral bay ecotours! - We had the best time on the marine eco tour with coral bay ecotours!! 3 different opportunities to go snorkelling and the wildlife was so beautiful. I went with my partner and we couldn’t have had a better time. Our crew for the day was Evie, Ruby, Pau (I’m so sorry if I spelt that wrong) and Tash. They were all so helpful and informative and shared so much info on the Ningaloo reef and the animals we saw. Great bang for your buck with heaps of snorkel time, and food included. The way they ran the manta ray portion of the tour was excellent and we got to spend an ample amount of time in water with a beautiful big female manta ray. So glad we decided to book, an unforgettable experience.

You’d Have More Fun in a Laundromat – Total Sh*tshow - As a regular visitor to the stunning Ningaloo Reef, my friends and I were pumped for a manta ray tour in June 2025. What we got instead was seven hours of pure seasickness, hypothermia, and regret. The wind was howling at 40km/h, so bad that other tour operators looked at the forecast and cancelled, but not Coral Bay Eco Tours. Nope, they strapped us in, kept quiet about the conditions, and launched us into what felt like an audition for Survivor.
Six of the seven hours were spent being slapped in the face by icy wind and salty sea spray, with zero shelter. No blinds. No dry area. Just ~30 soggy jammed sardines lying on the floor of the boat trying to hide from the wind, shivering and questioning every life decision that brought us here.
The wetsuits provided? If you can call them that. More like neoprene scraps of material— 3mm shorties with holes and tears that probably date back to the 90s. I’ve seen more warmth in a wet tea towel.
The spotter plane couldn’t even fly for the first half of the tour (because spoiler alert it was too windy!) so instead we just circled around in rough seas to kill time. When it came time to snorkel, the water looked like someone hit the blender on high. Visibility was non-existent, currents were strong, and most people were so seasick they were turning green. Several of us said, “We don’t want to get in,” but the crew said we had to do a swim test, or we wouldn’t be allowed in with the manta rays later. I'm sorry, wtf?! We’d already signed a waiver saying we could swim. Pretty sure forcing sick, freezing people into a frothy ocean for a snorkel test isn’t how you run a safe, fun day. We begrudgingly obliged and spent the rest of the day like drowned rats shaking uncontrollably from the cold.
Eventually, we saw one manta ray... for about five minutes. Fair call, she was majestic… and then it was gone. They offered us a second swim, but by then everyone was too cold, too seasick, and too traumatised to move. We all just sat there, dripping and defeated, like damp laundry on a line.
And let’s talk safety. During one snorkel stop, people were nearly hit by the boat thanks to the rough seas and strong currents. The toilet? A camp toilet that felt like the last sad stop on an outback road trip.
And then the cherry on top: after paying $300 per person, if you wanted photos from the day (taken by the onboard photographer), it was $75 per person extra. Yes, you too can own a blurry photo of your wind-blasted, regret-filled face, for the price of a decent meal and a cocktail. Should have just stayed at Bill's Bar.
Look I get it, you can’t control the weather. But you can control whether or not you go ahead with a tour in clearly awful conditions. Coral Bay Eco Tours should have cancelled. Full stop. Instead, they took our money, risked our safety, and delivered an experience about as enjoyable as a wet sock.
For the record I’ve done incredible tours with other companies in Coral Bay and Exmouth and all over the world with professional, safe, flexible, and genuinely memorable companies. This one? Unforgettable, yes, but for all the wrong reasons.
Avoid Coral Bay Eco Tours. Book with literally anyone else.
PS: No photos are attached for this review for obvious reasons - unless someone wants to Crowdfund me $75.
