As you traverse the mountain paths, you’ll encounter the rich history of this land, from its earliest inhabitants in 6000 BC to the present day.
During your hike, you’ll pass by mountain springs and visit the cave of Zas, where, according to legend, the young Zeus sought refuge from the wrath of Kronos. From the summit of Zas, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views that, in good weather, stretch across the entire southern Aegean, from Crete to the coasts of Asia Minor. Two hiking options are available, tailored to your experience level: easy and medium.
For the easy option, the hike begins at the old church of Agia Marina and concludes at the summit of Zas, taking approximately 3 hours.
The second, medium difficulty option starts at the fountain of Aries, passes by the Za cave, continues to the summit, and then returns to Agia Marina. This route takes approximately 3 1/2 hours.
