- Bab Bou Jeloud - This impressive structure is a triple-arched gateway showcasing Moorish architectural styles, featuring pointed horseshoe arches and a crenelated top. Both the inner and outer facades are adorned with polychrome tiles displaying arabesques and Moroccan geometric designs, with the outer facade predominantly blue and the inner facade predominantly greenish. Interestingly, the gate’s doors appear to close and lock from the outside, possibly indicating that the French administration used it partly to control the movement of medina inhabitants.
- Dar Batha Museum - Situated in the heart of the medina, opposite the stunning Bou Inania, the Dar Batha Museum was originally a magnificent Arab-Andalusian style palace built by Moulay el Hassan in the late 19th century. Converted into a museum in 1915, it houses treasures reflecting the traditional art of Fez and its region, including carved wood, embroidery, zellige, wrought iron, jewelry, coins, and carpets. The richness of Fassi craftsmanship is truly remarkable!
- Bou Inania Medersa - Named after the first part of Sultan Abou Inan’s name, the Bou Inania Medersa served as both an educational institution and a congregational mosque. It is the only madrasa in Fes with a minaret. Opposite its main entrance is the dar al-wuḍūʾ (ablutions house) for washing before prayers. Classrooms are located to the left and right of the central court. Historical records suggest that religious leaders from the Karaouine Mosque advised Abu Inan Faris to construct this madrasa, which was the last built by the Marinids. It became one of the most significant religious institutions in Fes and Morocco, achieving the status of Grand Mosque. Renovations occurred in the 18th century under Sultan Mulay Sliman, with major restoration work in the 20th century on its structure and decorative elements.
- Museo Nejjarine - Fondouk el-Nejjarine is one of the most renowned buildings in Fez, Morocco. This fondouk, or caravanserai, was declared a national monument in 1916 and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It currently houses the Wood Museum across its three floors.
- Zaouia of Moulay Idriss II - The Zaouia of Moulay Idriss II is a religious complex and shrine in Fez, Morocco, dedicated to Idris II, who ruled Morocco from 807 to 828 and is considered the primary founder of the city of Fes and the first Moroccan Islamic state. It is one of the holiest shrines in Morocco, located in the UNESCO-listed old medina of Fez.
- Mosque and University Kairaouine - Recognized by UNESCO and Guinness World Records as the oldest existing, continually operating higher educational institution in the world, it is sometimes referred to as the oldest university by scholars.
- Chouara Tannery - The tanneries in Fes consist of numerous stone vessels filled with various natural dyes and liquids. Many workers are often seen standing waist-deep in these vessels, laboring under the hot Moroccan sun to prepare animal hides soaking in each vessel. The tanneries process hides from cows, sheep, goats, and camels, transforming them into the exquisite leather products found throughout the streets of Fes.
- Andalusian Mosque - Located in Fes el Bali, the old medina quarter of Fez, Morocco, the Andalusian Mosque dates back to the city’s founding in the 9th century, with its initial foundation completed in 859-860. This makes it one of the oldest mosques in the world. It has undergone several renovations and expansions over the centuries and remains one of the few surviving Idrisid-era establishments and a key landmark of the city.
