Exploring Madeira’s Hidden Gems: A Family Adventure in a Jeep
When I heard about the East Adventure Jeep Tour in Madeira, I knew it was the perfect opportunity for a family-friendly adventure. Join me as I recount our thrilling day exploring the island’s hidden gems with the Marote Brothers.
A Journey Through Madeira’s Hidden Gems
As a travel writer and a mother of three, I am always on the lookout for family-friendly adventures that offer both fun and learning opportunities. Our recent trip to Madeira, Portugal, was no exception. We embarked on the East Adventure Jeep Tour with the Marote Brothers, Ricardo and Vitor, and it turned out to be an unforgettable experience.
Our day began with a warm welcome from our guide, Filipe, who picked us up right on time from our hotel. His friendly demeanor immediately put us at ease, and he took the time to ask about our interests and preferences for the day. With a map in hand, he outlined our route, which promised a mix of well-known attractions and hidden treasures.
The adventure kicked off with a thrilling ascent up the eastern mountains of Funchal in a classic 4x4 Jeep. The kids were thrilled by the steep climb, and the panoramic view of Funchal from the top was breathtaking. It was a perfect start to our day, setting the tone for the exciting journey ahead.
Discovering Madeira’s Natural Beauty
Our first major stop was Pico do Arieiro, the third highest peak in Madeira. The views from here were nothing short of spectacular, with vistas stretching across the island. Filipe’s knowledge of the area was impressive, and he shared fascinating insights about the island’s geography and history, making it an educational experience for the whole family.
Next, we headed to Ribeiro Frio, where we decided to take a spontaneous hike to the Miradouro dos Balcões lookout. Filipe guided us to the trailhead and arranged to pick us up at the end of our hike. The walk was invigorating, and the views from the lookout were stunning. It was a great way to immerse ourselves in Madeira’s lush landscapes.
Continuing our journey, we ventured off-road to Santana, a charming village known for its traditional thatched houses. Along the way, we stopped at a local restaurant to enjoy freshly prepared poncha, a traditional Madeiran drink. It was a delightful treat that added a touch of local flavor to our adventure.
Hidden Treasures and Unforgettable Moments
In Santana, we enjoyed a delicious lunch at a local eatery, where the kids were fascinated by the unique architecture of the Santana houses. Afterward, Filipe took us to the Cascata da Aguage waterfall, a hidden gem that we would have missed without his local expertise. The waterfall was a serene spot, perfect for a family photo.
Our final destination was the easternmost tip of Madeira, Miradouro da Ponta do Rosto. Here, we were treated to a unique view where the north and south of the island meet. It was a fitting end to our day, offering a moment of reflection on the diverse beauty of Madeira.
As we made our way back to the hotel, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the day’s experiences. The East Adventure Jeep Tour had exceeded our expectations, providing a perfect blend of adventure, education, and family fun. It’s a journey I would highly recommend to any family visiting Madeira, offering memories that will last a lifetime.
