- Lunuganga Garden Tour - Begin your itinerary with a visit to Bawa’s estate in Lunuganga. Sir Geoffrey Bawa, the esteemed lawyer turned architect, made this estate his countryside retreat from 1947 until his passing in 1998. During his time there, he used it as a creative laboratory, adding numerous architectural and interior features. Visitors can explore the beautifully landscaped gardens, now open to the public, and some estate buildings that have been transformed into a country house hotel. The estate tour lasts approximately two hours.
- Madu Ganga Biodiversity Area - Balapitiya, a quaint southern town, is nestled in marshy wetlands and is a biodiversity hotspot. The lagoon formed by the Madu River as it meets the Indian Ocean is central to the area’s ecosystem. The safari offers a river journey through dense mangrove forests and diverse wildlife habitats. Guides will also lead visitors to some of the larger islands on the Madu River, including one with an ancient Buddhist monastery. Cinnamon harvesting is the primary occupation here.
A highlight of the safari is the renowned fish massage. This unique experience takes place in a hut on stilts in the river, where a netted area houses the ‘massage fish.’ Visitors can relax on the hut’s deck with their feet in the water, enjoying the fish’s soothing touch.
- Meetiyagoda - Located in southern Sri Lanka, Meetiyagoda is famous for its distinctive moonstone mines.
