- Preveli Beach - Arrive around noon at Preveli Beach, renowned as the most famous beach in South Crete, attracting thousands of visitors each summer. In the ‘60s and ‘70s, it was a popular spot for hippies. Along the Grand River, a large colony of Theophrastus palm trees creates a tropical atmosphere. This is Crete’s second-largest palm forest, after Vai. The river forms a 500-meter-long lake before flowing into the sea. Stroll along the river under the palm trees’ shade and begin ascending the picturesque canyon. At the river’s mouth, a stunning beach with pebbles and sand awaits. Additionally, on the eastern side of the beach, a beautiful heart-shaped rock can be found. Enjoy ample free time to swim in the turquoise waters, sunbathe under the warm sun, and explore this unique tropical landscape.

After enjoying a comfortable ride in a modern, air-conditioned bus from Heraklion to Preveli Beach, visitors are free to explore this breathtaking area. During the journey, they can learn about the geology and history of South Crete. The bus will stop at a parking lot, the nearest point to the beach, where a path leads down to the shore. The parking area is situated near impressive vertical cliffs, offering excellent photo opportunities. To reach the beach, follow the footpath (approximately 400 steps), which takes about 15 minutes. Explore the Palm Forest, abundant with Theophrastus palm trees, tropical flowers, animals, plants, and an incomparable atmosphere.
Capture photos of the rushing Grand River and the towering cliffs of Kourtaliotikos Gorge, and enjoy a swim under the small waterfall at the gorge’s end. Return to the beach by walking along the river and enjoy a refreshing drink at the Preveli bar.
After about 4 hours of leisure time at the beach, the day concludes with a return trip to Heraklion.
