- Leonidas Monument - Following a lunch break in Kalambaka, the return trip to Athens includes a stop at Thermopylae, the site of the historic battle between the Greeks and Persians in 480 B.C. Visitors can admire the impressive statue of the Spartan King Leonidas, who, alongside 300 Spartans and 700 Thespians, bravely faced the vast Persian army led by King Xerxes I. It was here that Leonidas famously declared to Xerxes the phrase “Molon Labe,” meaning “Come and Get It.” The tour concludes with the drive back to Athens.
