• Gernika-Lumo - The French philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau once remarked: “Gernika is the happiest town in the world. Their affairs are governed by a board of peasants that meets under an oak tree and always makes the fairest decisions.” This city, famously bombed by Nazi planes in 1937, inspired Picasso’s renowned mural, “Guernica.” Visitors can explore the city and the iconic tree under which these “fairer decisions” are hopefully made.

Recognized as a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, Urdaibai is a vast estuary where mountains, rivers, the sea, and expansive sandy areas converge. The landscape, along with the numerous birds inhabiting it, can change dramatically depending on the tide and time of day.
• Mundaka - A visit to Mundaka is a must, as it is a key destination on the global ‘surfaris’ routes. Its beach boasts one of the most perfect waves on the planet, featuring a left-hand break. In this charming fishing village, visitors can engage in a Basque pelota match at the fronton, experiencing the authentic game played with bare hands and a ball that resembles stone.
• Mirador -San Juan Gaztelugatxe- Behatokia - Known by some as “Dragonstone,” San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is an islet linked to the mainland by 241 steps and topped with a hermitage. Gaztelugatxe gained immense fame after being featured in the Game of Thrones series as Dragonstone. While the ‘castle’ is a CGI creation, the breathtaking cliffs, jagged rocks, flocks of birds, and the sound of the sea are all vividly real.
• Guggenheim Museum Bilbao - The residents of Bilbao have long claimed their city as the capital of the world. With the opening of the Guggenheim Museum in 1997, this claim seemed to come true, as the building became an architectural marvel influencing the entire city. Locals humorously refer to the museum as the “doghouse” of Puppy, the iconic statue that greets visitors at the entrance.
