Hoa Lu Temples of the Dinh & Le Dynasties - Located 100km south of Hanoi, Hoa Lu Ancient Capital and Tam Coc Eco-tourism are among the top attractions in Ninh Binh Province.
Hoa Lu Ancient Capital: In 968, Dinh Bo Linh proclaimed himself King, establishing Hoa Lu as the capital for 41 years (968 – 1009). The first 12 years were under the Dinh Dynasty, led by King Dinh Tien Hoang, with the nation named Dai Co Viet. The subsequent 29 years were under the Le Dynasty, led by King Le Dai Hanh. In 1010, King Ly Thai To relocated the capital from Hoa Lu to Thang Long, now known as Hanoi, turning Hoa Lu into an ancient citadel. Today, two temples stand on the site of the old royal palace, one dedicated to King Dinh Tien Hoang and the other to King Le Dai Hanh. This visit provides insight into the feudal dynasties and historical periods of Vietnam. - Tam Coc - Explore Tam Coc Eco-tourism: Enjoy a two-hour boat ride along the Ngo Dong River to visit Tam Coc, often referred to as “Halong Bay on land.” Tam Coc features three limestone caves. The boat journey offers serene views of limestone mountains, rice paddies, and temples from Hang Ca (first cave) to Hang Hai (second cave) and Hang Ba (third cave).
- Thai Vi Temple - After the boat trip along Tam Coc’s picturesque river, explore Tam Coc Village by bicycle and visit Thai Vi Temple, located amidst the paddy fields. This is an excellent way to experience the daily life of local people.
The tour concludes at 4:00 PM, with a two-hour drive back to Hanoi.
- Mua Caves - Mua Cave (Hang Mua in Vietnamese) is a must-visit on a day trip to Ninh Binh. Follow the path to the foot of Lying Dragon Mountain and climb nearly 500 steps to the summit to explore the Virtual Tower. From the top, capture stunning views of Ninh Binh City, the Ngo Dong River, lotus ponds, and rice fields. The ascent to Mua Cave takes about 45 to 60 minutes, depending on your fitness level.
- Bai Dinh Pagoda - Bai Dinh Pagoda is a renowned spiritual complex in the Bai Dinh – Trang An ecotourism area, with a history spanning over 1000 years, linked to various feudal dynasties from the Dinh, Early Le, to the Ly. Situated west of the ancient capital Hoa Lu, in Gia Sinh Commune, near Trang An ecotourism, Hoa Lu Ancient Capital, and Mua Cave, the complex covers 539 hectares, featuring both the ancient and new Bai Dinh Pagodas. As the largest Buddhist pagoda complex in Vietnam, holding numerous records in the country, Southeast Asia, and Asia, it is an essential destination.
- Trang An Landscape Complex - Known as Halong Bay on land, Trang An boasts a breathtaking landscape of towering limestone mountains, tropical plants, rivers, and hidden temples and pagodas. Trang An is Vietnam’s only site recognized as both a natural and cultural UNESCO heritage site. Enjoy a two-hour sampan boat ride along Trang An’s tranquil river to explore various caves and temples.
- Vietnam Cycling - Cycling is an excellent way to explore Ninh Binh’s rice fields, offering a chance to traverse paddy fields and rural communes to observe the daily life of Vietnamese locals in the countryside. All cycling options are complimentary, and you can choose to cycle if desired and available.
