A Warm Welcome to Adventure
The moment I stepped off the cruise ship at Taino Bay, I was greeted by Leury, our driver for the day. His warm smile and friendly demeanor instantly made me feel at ease. As we settled into the cool, spotless van, Leury began sharing fascinating stories about Puerto Plata and the Damajagua Waterfalls. His knowledge and passion for the area were infectious, setting the perfect tone for the adventure that lay ahead.
The 30-minute drive to the waterfalls flew by as Leury regaled us with tales of the island’s history and culture. I couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement building as we approached our first destination. The anticipation of exploring the natural beauty of the Damajagua Waterfalls was palpable, and I was eager to dive into the experience.
Thrills at Damajagua Waterfalls
Upon arrival, we were introduced to our guide, Papito, and photographer, Ozuna. Their energy and enthusiasm were contagious, and they quickly became an integral part of our adventure. The hike to the waterfalls was invigorating, with Papito and Ozuna keeping spirits high with their jokes and encouragement.
The waterfalls themselves were a sight to behold. The crystal-clear pools and natural rock formations provided the perfect backdrop for an exhilarating experience. Sliding down the rocks and jumping into the pools was a thrill like no other. The heart-pounding 7–10 foot drop was a highlight, leaving me with a sense of accomplishment and a rush of adrenaline.
Thanks to Ozuna’s keen eye, I now have a collection of stunning photos that capture the essence of the day. The camaraderie among the guides and photographers was evident, as they worked seamlessly to ensure everyone had a safe and unforgettable experience.
Monkey Mischief and Cultural Insights
After the excitement of the waterfalls, we made our way to the Monkey Interaction Experience. Here, Hensley guided us through a fascinating tour of local plants, including coffee, cocoa, guava, and soursop. Tasting the natural Dominican coffee and hot chocolate was a delightful treat, adding a touch of local flavor to the day.
Meeting Mario, our monkey guide, was another highlight. His expertise and passion for the monkeys were evident as he introduced us to the playful creatures. The monkeys, especially Thanos, the alpha, were full of personality, providing endless entertainment and laughter.
Chandel, our photographer, captured the joy and wonder of the experience, ensuring that the memories would last a lifetime.
