• Kashihara Jingu - Kashihara-jingu was constructed at the site believed to be the seat of government for Emperor Jinmu from 660 to 585 BC. Located in the city of Kashihara, within the Nara department and the former Yamato province, this area was known for hosting the rotating capitals of early Japan.
• Mausoleum of Emperor Jinmu - A short 20-minute walk through the park leads to the mausoleum of Emperor Jinmu. This site features several gates and a hill where the Emperor is laid to rest. The area is protected, allowing visitors to stand in front and pay their respects to Japan’s founder.
• Kashihara City Imaicho Historical Town Area - After exploring Proto-Japan and the Meiji era at the Kashihara-jingu Shinto Shrine, visitors can head to the Imai-cho district, a traditional Japanese town within Kashihara in the Nara Department. Disembarking at Kintetsu Yaginishiguchi Station and crossing the Sobu Bridge leads directly to the area.
• Imai Skyline Exchange Center Hanairaka - Upon reaching the neighborhood, the Hanairaka Information Center is a must-visit. It features a blend of Japanese and Western Meiji architecture and provides insightful information about the neighborhood.
• Shonenji Temple - The city was established as a dependency of the Shonen-ji Buddhist temple, which itself was dependent on the Hongan-ji mother house, between 1532 and 1555 during the era of the warring provinces (1477-1573). The temple remains in the heart of the neighborhood and is open for visits.
• Imai Machiya Hall - Several houses in the neighborhood welcome visitors, including the former Yometani residence, the Imai-Machiya center, and the Kawai residence. Visitors can even ascend to the first floor of the Imai-Machiya to view a room in a traditional Edo-style house that has been recently renovated. This unique experience is both rare and fascinating!
