Dambulla Cave Temple - Dambulla boasts the largest and most well-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The rock rises 160 meters above the surrounding plains. There are over 80 documented caves in the area. The main attractions are spread across five caves, featuring statues and paintings related to Gautama Buddha and his life. There are 153 Buddha statues, three statues of Sri Lankan kings, and four statues of gods and goddesses, including Vishnu and Ganesha. The murals cover an area of 2,100 square meters (23,000 sq ft), depicting scenes such as the temptation by the demon Mara and Buddha’s first sermon.
Sigiriya to Polannaruwa
Minneriya National Park - During the dry season, large numbers of Sri Lankan elephants are drawn to the grass fields on the reservoir’s edges. The Minneriya tank supports a large herd, with elephants numbering around 150-200, and some reports suggesting as many as 700. They migrate from Wasgamuwa National Park, benefiting from the park’s food and shelter. Tourists visit Minneriya primarily for the elephants, especially in the dry season. After the day’s excursion, relax at the hotel in Sigiriya.
Sigiriya to Kandy
Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress - Visit the ancient city of Sigiriya early in the morning. Rising dramatically from the central plains, Sigiriya is perhaps Sri Lanka’s most striking sight. Near-vertical walls ascend to a flat-topped summit containing the ruins of an ancient civilization, believed to be the center of the short-lived kingdom of Kassapa, offering breathtaking views across mist-covered forests in the early morning.
Sri Muthumariamman Temple - After climbing Sigiriya rock, return to the hotel, check out, and travel to Kandy. On the way, stop at the Ayurvedic village, visit the herbal village, and Matale Hindu temple. Relax and stay overnight at a Kandy hotel.
Kandy Lake Club - Cultural Dance Show - In the evening, enjoy the Kandy cultural show. Sri Lanka, rich in culture and tradition, offers a vibrant and unique display of traditional dances in the Kandy cultural show. After the show, visit the holy golden-roofed Temple of the Sacred Tooth, which houses Sri Lanka’s most important Buddhist relic – a tooth of the Buddha.

Kandy to Ella and the famous train journey
Kandy View Point - A beautiful spot to view Kandy city. The atmosphere is great, calm, and peaceful. The best time to visit is in the evening during sunset.
Ramboda Waterfall - On the way to Ella, discover the Tea bush viewpoint and Ramboda waterfalls. Ramboda Falls is 109 meters high, the 11th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka, and the 729th highest in the world. It is located in the Pussellawa area, on the A5 highway at Ramboda Pass, formed by Panna Oya, a tributary of Kothmale Oya.
Blue Field Tea Factory - After stopping at Ramboda, continue to Nuwara Eliya. Take a 30-minute guided tour of the factory. Due to the type of tea produced (a very light tea), processing occurs at night when it’s cooler, so there may not be much activity to see. Blue Field includes the Estate, Tea Factory, Tea Center, and Restaurant. The area belonging to Blue Field is 100 acres, with a population of 1,000. There are 175 families living in the plantation area, provided with facilities such as housing, electricity, school, and healthcare.
Nuwara Eliya - After lunch, explore Nuwara Eliya city, then proceed to Nanu Oya station to take the train to Ella. The train journey offers a scenic ride through some of Sri Lanka’s most beautiful highland countryside. Enjoy the lush green carpets of tea plantations, picturesque villages with misty mountain backdrops, and magical landscapes of the hill country. Marvel at the stunning views of towering mountains, dense woodlands, and magnificent waterfalls as they pass by your window. This is the best part of the train journey in Sri Lanka.
Ella to Tissamaharama
Little Adam’s Peak View Point - After an early breakfast, hike Little Adam’s Peak. Despite the name ‘Little,’ it is named after the sacred Adam’s Peak (Sri Pada – where the footprint of Lord Buddha is preserved) due to the similarity between the two mountains. Thus, it is called Little Adam’s Peak.
Nine Arches Bridge - Walk over the historic Nine Arches Bridge and learn about its construction. End your hike at the Demodara Railway station with its unique loop-over track design.
Ravana Ella Falls - On the way to Tissamaharama, enjoy the best sights of Sri Lanka. Ravana Falls cascades down 82 feet from an oval concave rock, resembling a drooping areca flower during peak water flow, but its size reduces significantly in the dry season. Located in the Ravana Ella Wildlife Sanctuary in Ella, this waterfall is the source of many legends and secrets. After the day’s activities, relax and stay overnight at a Tissamaharama hotel.
Tissamaharama to Mirissa
Yala National Park - Visit Yala National Park early in the morning or afternoon. Yala National Park is a vast area of forest, grassland, and lagoons bordering the Indian Ocean in southeast Sri Lanka. It is home to wildlife such as leopards, elephants, and crocodiles, as well as hundreds of bird species. Inland, Sithulpawwa is an ancient Buddhist monastery. After the safari, head to Mirissa.
Whale Watching at Mirissa
Mirissa - Early morning, embark on a whale watching tour in Mirissa and a Galle city tour. The Whale Watching Tour in Mirissa offers a five-hour opportunity to see the largest mammals on earth, the whales, in their natural habitat. Spot blue whales, sperm whales, and fin whales as they swim in the waters south of Sri Lanka. Gain insights about whales from a qualified naturalist and learn to identify them. This tour provides a responsible whale watching experience with minimal impact on nature. In the afternoon, relax at the beach.
Mirissa to Bentota
Galle Fort - After breakfast at the hotel, proceed to Balapitiya, stopping at Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery and Galle Fort along the way. Galle is a gem, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a delight to explore on foot. It is an exotic old trading port with imposing Dutch-colonial buildings, ancient mosques and churches, grand mansions, and museums.
Sea Turtle Protection Association - The Turtle Care Program helps protect nests until they hatch, increasing the survival chances for baby turtles. See, touch, and feed baby turtles, or even injured adult turtles cared for by the Turtle Hatchery.
Madu Ganga Biodiversity Area - After checking in at the hotel, proceed to Balapitiya for a lovely boat safari on the Madu River. Enjoy a wonderful boat ride through the flourishing ecosystem of the Madu River. Navigate through secretive passages created by mangroves, see basking crocodiles and water monitors, visit small islands with cinnamon harvesting natives, enjoy the famous fish massage, and observe water birds in their natural habitats. After the day’s activities, return to the hotel to relax and enjoy the beautiful Bentota beach hotel.
Departure (Bentota to Airport or next city)
Bandaranaike International Airport - After breakfast at the hotel on your final day, proceed to Colombo International Airport (CMB) and prepare for departure after a memorable time on the beautiful little island, fulfilling your dream.
