The ceremony concludes with a heartfelt tribute, inviting veterans and active military members to the stage for the flag retirement, wrapping up by 9:00 PM for the return journey. As temperatures drop after sunset in the Black Hills, it is highly recommended to bring a jacket to complement the blankets provided in the van for the ride back to your hotel.

Rushmore takes approximately 45 minutes. Upon arrival, guests will have 30 minutes to find seating at the amphitheater for the program commencing at 8:00 pm. The event begins with a 10-minute Ranger Talk focusing on the four presidents, followed by a 20-minute video highlighting the nation’s development in relation to these leaders. At 8:30 pm, the Star-Spangled Banner will be performed as the monument is illuminated. Veterans and military personnel are invited to the stage to assist in retiring the flag and to be honored. The entire program lasts about 45 minutes. Blankets are available in the vans for chilly evenings, but guests are advised to bring a jacket as temperatures drop after sunset. The return to Rapid City is scheduled for approximately 9:45 pm.
