Kigali Genocide Memorial - Morning Pick-up: Guests will be picked up from any location in Kigali for a drive to the Kigali Genocide Memorial site before proceeding to Musanze city in northwest Rwanda. Musanze serves as the gateway to Volcanoes National Park, renowned for its mountain gorillas and golden monkeys.
The Kigali Genocide Memorial is a site of remembrance and education dedicated to the victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda and the nation’s journey towards recovery.
The Kigali Genocide Memorial is a UNESCO World Heritage site, established at the burial site of 250,000 victims of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. Musanze - After visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial, guests will depart Kigali for Musanze city, a journey of approximately 2 to 2.5 hours with local experts and a friendly driver guide from Afri Safaris. Transportation is provided in a choice 4x4 safari vehicle equipped with Wi-Fi to keep guests connected with loved ones and the world.

After the stopover, guests will continue to Musanze (Ruhengeri), the city in northwest Rwanda that serves as the gateway to Volcanoes National Park, home to mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. Guests will then be transferred to their booked hotel to freshen up, relax, or swim. After relaxing, they will visit the IBYIWACU Cultural Village.

Iby’iwacu Cultural Village - After freshening up, guests will be transferred to the Iby’iwacu Cultural Village. This village, once home to ex-poachers who previously hunted gorillas due to poverty, is now a leading cultural attraction in Rwanda. The village showcases Rwanda’s cultural traditions, people, and history, offering international visitors a glimpse into life in a traditional African village, including lifestyle, housing, traditional dances, dress codes, food, herbs, and the organization of ancient kingdoms. Tourists can learn ancient hunting skills, try weaving baskets/mats, and engage in carpentry. This unique experience has captivated many visitors eager to immerse themselves in the culture of Rwanda’s native community after seeing gorillas. The village also offers opportunities to purchase local crafts, gifts, and souvenirs to share with friends back home.
Gorilla Trekking Rwanda & Transfer Back to Kigali
Volcanoes National Park - Guests should wake up early and order breakfast while waiting for the driver to pick them up. The Afri Safaris driver guide will take them to the RDB headquarters in Kinigi for a briefing at 7:00 am. This briefing is crucial as it covers how to behave around the gorillas, what to expect, and what to bring while tracking the gorillas. Guests will be assigned a gorilla family based on their overall fitness and age, as some gorilla groups are located deeper in the forest, requiring more hours of trekking. Porters are available to assist with extra luggage. Park Rangers will lead the trek into the forest to track the primates, which can take between 2 to 6 hours.
After spending an hour observing the mountain gorillas, the guide will be waiting at the starting point to transfer guests back to Kigali.
Migano Cafe - Stop by Migano Cafe in Musanze for lunch (•Hot lunch of your choice from the food menu at Migano Cafe Musanze).
After lunch, guests will be transferred back to Kigali to their hotel or Kigali International Airport.
