SIMPLE ITINERARY:
Begin the day early by ordering breakfast while waiting for the driver to arrive. An Afri Safaris driver guide will transport you to the RDB headquarters in Kinigi for a briefing at 7:00 am. This briefing is crucial as it is where you will meet fellow tourists and the Rangers who will guide you into the forest. The briefing covers various topics, with a focus on how to behave around the gorillas, what to expect, and what to bring along while tracking the gorillas. You will be assigned a gorilla family based on your overall fitness and age, as some gorilla groups are located deeper in the forest, requiring more hours of trekking. Porters are available to assist with extra luggage. Park Rangers will lead you into the forest to track the primates. Trekking can take between 2 to 6 hours.
After spending an hour observing the mountain gorillas, the Guide will be waiting for you at the starting point.
- Iby’iwacu Cultural Village - After Gorilla trekking, you will be transferred to Iby’iwacu Cultural Village. Iby’iwacu Cultural Village is a community of former poachers who previously hunted gorillas due to poverty but have since ceased poaching. The Iby’iwacu Cultural Village is one of Rwanda’s premier cultural attractions. The Village showcases all of Rwanda’s cultural traditions, people, and history in one place for display and personal experience. International visitors can experience life in a typical African village setting – the lifestyle, houses, traditional dances, dress code, food, herbs, and the organization of ancient kingdoms. Tourists have the opportunity to learn ancient hunting skills, try weaving baskets/mats, and carpentry. This unique experience has captivated many visitors who wish to immerse themselves in the culture of Rwanda’s native community after seeing gorillas. The village offers opportunities to purchase local crafts, gifts, and souvenirs to share with friends back home.
