Kisoro - The pick-up will be from either the hotel in Kigali or Kigali Airport upon arrival (before 12pm). A Professional English-speaking Tour Driver-guide will meet you, and the journey to Cyanika Border Post will commence. At Cyanika, a Uganda-based Professional Tour Driver-guide will take over from the Rwanda-based counterpart. You will cross the border into Uganda and spend the night at a property near Mgahinga NP, where golden monkey trekking will take place the following day.
Golden monkey trekking Mgahinga NP. Transfer to Bwindi (Ruhija Sector).
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park - Uganda is rich in primates, and the golden monkeys are a must-see species. These beautiful primates are found in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, part of the Virunga Mountains where they are endemic. This morning, a drive of about 45 minutes to an hour will take you to the Mgahinga NP ranger’s post. Upon arrival, a briefing will be given, and a ranger-guide will lead you into the Mgahinga Forest to encounter golden monkeys. Once located, you will spend an hour with them. The experience is so captivating that time flies by. Afterward, you will return to the car and transfer to accommodation at the edge of Bwindi NP, where gorilla trekking will occur the next day.
Gorilla trekking Bwindi Forest. Return and relax at leisure - recovering.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park - Enjoy breakfast and proceed to the rangers’ post. A ranger-guide will brief you on the dos and don’ts during gorilla trekking. Then, enter the forest for your adventure. The beauty of this rainforest is breathtaking! The area offers a dramatic, steeply forested landscape and is incredibly dense but crisscrossed by numerous animal trails for tourist access. The time taken (4-8 hours) and the terrain vary with the movements of these great primates. Once a gorilla group is located, you will spend an hour with them. Observing these gentle but endangered giants is an unforgettable thrill. Return to the accommodation and rest after the trek. *Optional (extra cost): If you finish early and feel up to it, your guide can arrange a community visit or a short nature walk along one of the forest trails.
Game viewing Ishasha for tree-climbing lions. Connect north Queen.
Queen Elizabeth National Park - Rise early, have breakfast, and transfer to the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth NP, known for its tree-climbing lions. Once there, embark on a game drive to find this rare species of lions. The chance of spotting these lions is about 60-70%, but they can be elusive, especially when in the grassland hunting. If you spot the lions in the trees, the view is picturesque and unforgettable. From Ishasha (south), exit and head to the booked accommodation in the north sector. Check in and rest. *Optional: Consider a late afternoon-to-evening game drive/safari in the Kasenyi plains if interested.
Morning game drive and afternoon boat trip along the Kazinga Channel.
Queen Elizabeth National Park - Rise early and enjoy breakfast. Proceed for a morning game drive in the Kasenyi plains, looking for Cape buffalos, herds of elephants, lions, and leopards (though they are hard to spot), among others. Return to the accommodation for rest and lunch. After lunch, embark on a 2-hour boat trip on the Kazinga Channel, connecting Lakes George and Edward. The trip offers fascinating views of wildlife, including giant hippos, elephants, and crocodiles, among others. You will also see many bird species along the water shores. *After the boat trip, you can choose to return to the lodge to rest or go for a brief late afternoon game drive before returning to the lodge.
Transfer to Lake Mburo NP and enjoy afternoon (evening) game drive.
Lake Mburo National Park - Enjoy a relaxed breakfast and set off to Lake Mburo NP.
