Join the guide at the Cretan Spiti Travel terminal at 08:30 for a short 5km drive southeast of the city to explore the Knossos Palace, constructed between 1700 and 1400 BC. This remarkable site showcases advanced architectural techniques, with some sections reaching up to five stories high. The history of Knossos dates back to the Neolithic period, with remains from around 7000 BC found across Crete. Discover the remnants of the ancient Minoan civilization, including the palace’s 1300 rooms connected by corridors, a theater, and extensive storerooms that once held large clay containers of oil, grains, dried fish, beans, and olives, often concealing gold beneath. The site was uncovered in 1878 by Minos Kalokairinos, and excavations led by English archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans and his team began in 1900, continuing for 35 years. After exploring the site, return to the Cretan Spiti Travel terminal at 11:30.
