- Koh Ker Temple - Koh Ker served as the capital of the Khmer Empire from 928 AD to 944 AD, under the reigns of Jayavarman IV and Harshavarman II. Situated approximately 120 km northeast of Siem Reap, King Jayavarman IV made the bold decision to relocate the capital from Angkor to Koh Ker in Cambodia. For a brief 16 years, this remote location thrived with royal activity. Nearly 40 significant structures, including temples, barays, and living quarters, were constructed. After the death of Jayavarman IV, his son Harshavarman II briefly ruled before the capital returned to Angkor in 944 CE.
