Preah Vihear Temple - Discover and learn about the Temple of Preah Vihear, situated near the Thai border. Dedicated to Shiva, it stands on a plateau overlooking the Cambodian plain. Dating back to the first half of the 11th century AD, the temple comprises a series of sanctuaries linked by sidewalks and staircases along an 800-meter axis. Its complex history traces back to the ninth century when the hermitage was founded. The site remains exceptionally well-preserved due to its remote location.
-
Kor Ker Temple - A certified guide will lead the way to Koh Ker, a 10th-century temple complex nestled in the northern Cambodian jungles. Once the capital of the Khmer Empire, it is now remote and heavily forested. The main structure, Koh Ker Temple, is a seven-tiered stepped pyramid. Rahal Baray, a large rectangular tank, provided water to the site. The Prasat Krahom, or “red temple,” is renowned for its sandstone sculptures, while Prasat Pram is enveloped in strangler figs.
-
Prasat Linga 1 or Prasat Thnoeng - On the route, there is an opportunity to visit five solitary temples of the Northeast group, the closest monuments to Koh Ker’s main temple complex at Prasat Thom. Each features a large monolithic Lingam on equally large Yoni pedestals, symbolizing female genitals. These five distinct structures are known as Linga-temples, with names from G to K and numbered 277 to 281. The guide will provide historical insights along the way.
-
Prasat Balang 2 (Prasat Linga 2) - The second Linga temple from the north, located around the Koh Ker Rahal circuit. This small, square sandstone shrine contains a relatively well-preserved yoni and linga. None of these large linga temples have roofs, possibly due to incomplete construction or the use of perishable materials that have not survived. They all feature a sandstone base with stairs on each side leading to false doors on the east, north, and south, and an open doorway on the west.

Koh Ker Temple - Koh Ker was the capital of the Khmer Empire from 928 AD to 944 AD, under Jayavarman IV and Harshavarman II. As visitors explore the now-ruined carved sandstone remnants that once housed over 10,000 people, they can imagine the ancient city as a vibrant, bustling metropolis. It is a jungle-filled area with a sparse population. A protected area of 81 square kilometers (31 square miles) contains over 180 sanctuaries. Tourists can visit approximately two dozen monuments, as most sanctuaries are hidden in the forest, and the entire area has not been fully demined.
-
Prasat Kraham - Additionally, there is an exclusive journey to uncover the royal temple, known as Prasat Thom, located northwest of Koh Ker’s large central reservoir, Rahal Baray. The main temple of Koh Ker is aligned along a prominent procession route on an east-west axis (not exactly), leading to the step pyramid known as Prasat Prang. The entire structure consists of two rectangular enclosures connected end to end and surrounded by a laterite wall. The front rectangle encloses a moat, which has two smaller enclosures on its island. This ensemble is Prasat Thom in a narrow sense. The rear rectangle contains the pyramid commonly referred to as Prasat Prang.
