This vineyard is a family-run business established by Tony Soljan. The Soljan family has a rich history in West Auckland, with their original vineyard located in the Henderson suburb, which is also in West Auckland.

At the Kumeu vineyard, they cultivate Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, and Pinotage, all of which thrive in the Kumeu region. The winemakers and staff are dedicated to crafting the finest wines for enjoyment, sourcing grapes from the best locations. Soljans integrates modern winemaking technology while maintaining quality by preserving some traditional methods. Alongside French Oak Barrique Barrels for wine aging, they also use hand-crafted, 65-year-old, 2,250-litre totara barrels for aging their exquisite Founders Tawny Port.

Soljans Estate Winery produces a diverse range of still and sparkling wines and has been doing so for over 80 years.

• The Hunting Lodge Winery & Restaurant - At The Hunting Lodge, visitors can enjoy a relaxed yet generous wine experience at one of Kumeu’s most cherished casual dining spots. Tastings feature a selection of estate-grown wines, focusing on elegant Chardonnays, vibrant Pinot Gris, refreshing Rosé, and smooth, approachable reds, reflecting the region’s esteemed winemaking tradition. There’s something to delight both seasoned wine enthusiasts and newcomers to wine tasting.

Lunch is served at the Lawn Bar, a laid-back outdoor area perfect for relaxing between tastings. The share-style menu includes generous charcuterie boards with cheeses, cured meats, and accompaniments, alongside freshly made pizzas with various toppings. Guests can also enjoy casual sides and snacks, all perfectly paired with a glass of wine.

• Muriwai Gannet Colony - The Muriwai Gannet Colony is a spectacular sight! From August to March, around 1,200 pairs of gannets nest on the rugged cliffs and two vertical-sided islands. Watching these magnificent birds with their impressive two-meter wingspans master the onshore updrafts is truly mesmerizing. Additionally, the views of the black-sand Muriwai Beach stretching 60 kilometers are simply breathtaking.

• Kumeu River Wines - Kumeu River Winery is globally acclaimed for producing some of New Zealand’s finest Chardonnay, often compared to top white Burgundies for its elegance, balance, and depth. During a visit, guests can expect to taste beautifully crafted Chardonnays ranging from fresh and vibrant estate styles to more complex, single-vineyard expressions that highlight the region’s unique terroir and clay soils.
