A Journey to the Stars: Our Family Adventure at Teide National Park
When I first heard about the Teide National Park Sunset & Stargazing experience, I knew it was something my family and I had to try. As a mother of three, I’m always on the lookout for activities that are both educational and fun for the kids. This adventure promised a night under the stars, complete with a sunset above the clouds and a chance to explore the universe through high-powered telescopes. It sounded like the perfect blend of learning and excitement.
A Warm Welcome and a Taste of the Canaries
Our journey began with a convenient pick-up right from our hotel in Los Cristianos. The kids were buzzing with excitement as we boarded the bus, joining a group of fellow adventurers. Our first stop was a charming local restaurant in Chio, where we were treated to a delightful Canarian meal. The menu offered something for everyone, with options like BBQ chicken, pork steak, and a vegetarian dish, all served with the famous Canarian potatoes and mojo sauces. The kids loved the chocolate dessert, and I appreciated the inclusion of a vegetarian option, which made it easy to cater to everyone’s tastes.
As we dined, we had the chance to chat with other families and travelers, sharing stories and building anticipation for the night ahead. It was a wonderful way to start the evening, and the friendly atmosphere set the tone for the rest of our adventure.
Sunset Above the Clouds: A Moment of Magic
After our meal, we continued our journey into the mountains, heading towards the Parque Recreativo Pinar De Chio. The drive itself was an experience, as we passed through recent lava flows and lush forests. When we arrived at our sunset spot, we were greeted with a breathtaking view of Mount Teide and the sea of clouds below us. The kids were in awe, and I must admit, I was too.
With a glass of cava in hand, we watched as the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink. It was a moment of pure magic, one that I know we’ll all remember for years to come. The guides were fantastic, capturing the moment with professional photos and a time-lapse of the sunset, which they later shared with us at no extra cost.
Stargazing: A Window to the Universe
As the sky darkened, we made our way to the Mirador de las Narices del Teide, where the real adventure awaited. The guides had set up four high-powered telescopes, ready to take us on a journey through the cosmos. The kids were thrilled to see Saturn and its rings, and the guides’ knowledge of the constellations and galaxies was truly impressive.
We spent the evening exploring the night sky, learning about the science and mythology behind the stars. The guides were patient and engaging, allowing us to take our time with the telescopes and answering all of our questions. It was a brilliant educational experience, one that sparked a newfound interest in astronomy for my children.
As the night came to a close, we were provided with warm jackets to ward off the chill, a thoughtful touch that made the experience even more comfortable. We returned to our hotel with hearts full of wonder and minds buzzing with new knowledge.
The Teide National Park Sunset & Stargazing experience was everything I hoped it would be and more. It was a perfect blend of adventure, education, and family bonding, and I can’t recommend it enough to other families looking for a unique and memorable experience. Whether you’re a seasoned stargazer or a curious beginner, this adventure is sure to leave you with a sense of awe and a deeper appreciation for the universe.
