A Journey to the Stars

As a travel writer and a mother of three, I am always on the lookout for experiences that can captivate both adults and children alike. Our recent adventure to Teide National Park for a sunset and stargazing tour was one such experience that promised to be both educational and awe-inspiring. The journey began with a comfortable coach ride from Los Cristianos, where we were warmly greeted by our enthusiastic guides. The anticipation built as we made our way through the scenic landscapes of Tenerife, with the guides sharing fascinating stories about the volcanic history and unique flora and fauna of the area.

The first stop was Montaña Sámara, a viewpoint high above the Sea of Clouds. As the sun began to set, the sky transformed into a canvas of vibrant colors. We were offered a glass of cava or a soft drink to toast this magical moment. The kids were thrilled to see the professional photographers capturing the sunset, and the time-lapse video included in the package was a delightful surprise. It was a perfect opportunity to teach them about the science behind sunsets and the beauty of nature.

Dining Under the Stars

After soaking in the breathtaking sunset, we continued our journey to Restaurante 7 Cañadas. Nestled in the heart of Teide National Park, this charming restaurant offered a simple yet satisfying Canarian meal. The menu included chicken on the bone, potatoes, and rice, with a choice of wine, Pepsi, or water, and a delicious chocolate cake for dessert. The views from the restaurant were stunning, providing a perfect backdrop for our meal.

The hour we spent at the restaurant was just right, allowing us to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The kids were fascinated by the opportunity to try local mojo sauces, and the friendly staff made us feel right at home. It was a wonderful way to introduce them to the flavors of the Canary Islands while enjoying a family meal under the stars.

Stargazing Magic

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the stargazing experience. A short drive took us to the designated stargazing spot, where telescopes were already set up and ready for us to explore the night sky. The guides were incredibly knowledgeable, speaking English, French, and German, and they shared captivating stories about the constellations and cosmic wonders.

We spent two hours gazing at the stars, and the kids were over the moon to see Saturn through the telescope. The experience was both educational and magical, sparking their curiosity about the universe. As the night grew colder, we were offered hot chocolate, which was a comforting treat. The professional photo taken with the Milky Way as the backdrop was a cherished memento of our adventure.

The return journey was smooth, and as we made our way back to Los Cristianos, I reflected on the day’s experiences.
