Jungle immersion - We highly recommend The Hiker in Luang Namtha for anyone looking for an authentic jungle trekking experience in northern Laos. We did the 3-day Hunter’s Trail through the primary forest of Nam Ha National Park, and it exceeded all expectations. Our guides, Kham and the local guide Lun, were truly exceptional – extremely knowledgeable, kind, and generous with sharing insights about the jungle, local wildlife, Lao culture, and daily life in the region. The trek beautifully combined deep jungle hiking with cultural immersion. Staying overnight in a local village, sitting by the fire with villagers, making bamboo cups, learning traditional hunting methods, swimming in the river, all of it felt genuine and unforgettable. The food was outstanding, prepared mostly by our guides in a jungle restaurant style and also by the host families, and was far beyond what we expected in such remote conditions. They kindly respected our dietary restrictions and made everything they could to make us content. The trek is accurately described as difficult: around six hours of hiking on the first two days, slightly less on the third, with plenty of ups and downs through dense forest. It’s demanding but incredibly rewarding, and perfect for those who enjoy challenging hikes in stunning nature. A special thanks to Tom and the whole team at The Hiker for their guidance when choosing the right trek, as well as for their kindness and understanding when we had to postpone the trip due to unexpected issues. Starting the trek a day later was handled with such ease, without any stress or complications, which we truly appreciated.

Ancestral and botanical jungle trek - We had a wonderful trek in the jungle, saw beautiful trees, views, Khmu people. Our guide Thit and his Khmu fellow were very caring, and also cooked beautifully for us on open fires. And moreover: Thit explained very much and in detail ancestral knowledge on plants and their nutritional uses... Very interesting! Good walks, not too difficult for those who are used to hike, with up- and downhills and great rests, sometimes under incredible prehistoric trees (ficus- Banyan?). Serious, professional and highly

A great option for tough jungle trekking without having to build your own shelter! - As keen hikers, but older travellers, we wanted to challenge ourselves and see deep jungle without roughing it too much. We liked the fact that the Hiker had its own jungle camp (basic but adequate huts) and also that they were the only company allowed to use the hunter trails. It was a fantastic (but tough!) route, both the company and the local guides were excellent and the food they provided was outstanding. The Hiker lived up to its glowing online reviews!

Wonderful expérience - We were looking for a trek to do with my friend. We find the Hiker and we were very happy. Our trek was our favorite activity of our Laos tour. Noy, our guide was the best guide I have ever had in trekking in general. He adapted his speed to ours during walking time. The best about it was that he was a very good cooker : he permitted us to discover real and authentic Lao food. Finally we felt very safe with him deep in the jungle. We recommend to engage in the kayaking activity in the last day as we could fully enjoy the landscape. Thank you The Hiker and Noy !!

Great experience, highly recommended! - An experience perfectly tailored to my interests. 3 days of Hunter Trails with one night in the jungle and one in Muang Sing so we could start there early in the morning. Hike about 10 km each on the first two days. Many thanks to my excellent guide Peng!!

Great experience - Finally a hike that keeps its promise. The first two days were 7 hours of hiking (including short breaks), quite a bit up and down, in different forests. On the third day, 30 km of kayaking through beautiful primary jungle was also great. The food was very good and varied (I chose vegetarian) and the guides did a great job too. I'm choosing THE HIKER again!

Best Trekking Tour in Laos - This is the third time I have been on a trekking tour with The Hiker. Everything is arranged individually. Many organizations have at least 8 people. The Hiker keeps the groups small. There is always a tour guide and a local guide who knows the area very well. The food is freshly cooked and is absolutely amazing. I have already booked several trekking tours with other organizations but The Hiker beats them all. The guides are very knowledgeable and explain a lot. They make sure that safety is guaranteed and you just feel like you are in good hands. Tom has a really great team and most of the tour guides have been working there for years and with passion. Xai was the tour guide this time and I was very satisfied as always. I can recommend The Hiker to everyone. Thanks again to the team and I will be back

Hunter Trail January 2024 - Overall, we enjoyed our 3 day hike on the Hunter Trail. The food was definitely the highlight, both food brought with from the market and especially that foraged while hiking. The hike had a good variety of scenery between the fields and village life to primary and secondary forest. A couple of things we thought could be improved. There was the lack of basic camping education such as leave no trace principles, which was definitely needed in our group of mixed experience. There were a few camps used by The Hiker that had toilet paper and plastic wrappers left behind. Although our guides, Noy and Puon, did a good job of cleaning up plastic along the way. When we arrived at the village there was no introduction to our host family nor explanation of appropriate social interactions which left a bit of guessing on our part. In hindsight we should have asked for clarification.
