Chimpanzee Trekking & Canopy Walkway
Nyungwe Forest National Park - After an early breakfast, proceed to the Nyungwe National Park headquarters for a briefing on chimpanzee trekking at 6:00 am. The Park Guides will provide information on the rules for tracking chimpanzees, details about the park, and what to expect. Following the briefing, the Park Guides will lead you into the forest to locate the chimps. Chimpanzee trekking differs from gorilla trekking as chimps tend to stay longer in the trees and are more vocal and lively. Their calls can be heard from afar, and they will likely spot your group before you see them. The trek usually lasts between 3 to 5 hours, with one hour allocated for observing the chimps. Make the most of this time to capture photos.
Nyungwe Canopy Walk - After spending an hour with the chimps, return to the park offices where your driver guide will be waiting.
The driver guide will take you to your hotel for lunch and some rest. Later in the afternoon, you’ll be driven to the Uwinka Visitors Center for the Canopy Walkway and bird watching. The Canopy Walkway typically takes 45 minutes to an hour, offering sights of small monkeys (mountain monkeys), butterflies, and more.
1:00 pm Conclude your trip and transfer back to Kigali.
We trust you will have enjoyed your visit to Nyungwe National Park. The driver will drop you off at the airport in Kigali or at your hotel.
