Philae Temple
This temple was constructed to honor the goddess Isis and represents the last temple built in the classical Egyptian style. Its construction began around 690 BC and it was one of the final places where the goddess was worshipped.
Aswan High Dam - >The High Dam
The Aswan High Dam is a rock-fill dam located at the northern border between Egypt and Sudan. It is fed by the River Nile, forming Lake Nasser. Construction started in 1960 and was completed in 1968, with its official inauguration in 1971.
Unfinished Obelisk - >The Unfinished Obelisk
Aswan was renowned for its high-quality granite, used in statues, temples, pyramids, and obelisks. The large unfinished obelisk in the Northern Quarries offers valuable insights into the creation of these monuments, though the complete construction process remains somewhat mysterious. The shaft, nearly 42 meters long, was completed on three sides except for the inscriptions. Weighing 1168 tonnes, the finished obelisk would have been the heaviest stone piece ever crafted by the Egyptians.
Overnight stay at Basma Hotel, a 4-star accommodation.
Aswan to Abu Simbel to Marsa
Aswan Market - Begin your journey early with a 4:00 am pick-up from your hotel in Aswan. Travel in an air-conditioned vehicle to Abu Simbel, a 3-hour drive, to visit the temples before the day’s heat.
The temples of Abu Simbel
Carved from the mountainside during Pharaoh Ramesses II’s reign in the 13th century BC, the Abu Simbel temple complex is a marvel. An Egyptologist guide will share insights about one of Egypt’s most notable pharaohs. Admire the Great Temple’s main façade, featuring four statues of Ramesses II seated on his throne. Although the main temple is theoretically dedicated to Amon-Re Horakhty and Ptah, it was primarily built to glorify Ramses the Great. Continue to the smaller temple dedicated to Queen Nefertari, located next to the Great Temple. Re-board the coach at 9:00 am for the return trip to Aswan. Overnight stay in Aswan.
Day 3 - Aswan to Kom Ombo to Edfu to Marsa Alam
Temple of Kom Ombo - Day 3 - Aswan to Kom Ombo to Edfu to Marsa Alam
After breakfast, proceed to the Kom Ombo Temple.
The temples of Kom Ombo
Kom Ombo is unique among Egypt’s ancient temples as it is divided into two, dedicated to two gods: Sobek, the Crocodile God of fertility, and Horus, the falcon-headed God of the sky. Kom Ombo is also renowned for its depictions of surgical instruments, providing an early record of medicine and surgery in Ancient Egypt.
Edfu - Then proceed to the Edfu Temple.
The grand Ptolemaic Temple of Horus at Edfu is the most complete and best-preserved of the Egyptian temples, featuring numerous columns, halls, chambers, and chapels. Two statues of Horus guard the twin-towered entrance gate, and inside, an intriguing inscription lists the titles of books (scrolls) housed in the library.
