Negombo - Sigiriya
Dambulla Cave Temple - Situated at an elevation of 1,118 feet above sea level, a massive rock rises 600 feet high and stretches over 2,000 feet in length from the plains of Dambulla. It houses the world’s most renowned cave complex, featuring magnificent Buddha images and vibrant rock paintings, created from around the 2nd Century BC (Anuradhapura era) and continuing through the Kandyan era of the 18th Century.
Minneriya National Park - Covering a 15-acre estate located approximately 10 kilometers northwest of Kegalle, the Millennium Elephant Foundation (MEF) is a charity dedicated to rescuing and caring for captive Asian elephants in Sri Lanka. It funds its activities through tourist fees and volunteer programs, using the proceeds to enhance the care and conditions for its elephants and to conduct educational programs for local farmers and their families, promoting the protection of local wild elephants.
Sigiriya
Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress - Sigiriya is arguably Sri Lanka’s most dramatic sight. Its near-vertical walls ascend to a flat-topped summit containing the ruins of an ancient civilization, believed to have been the center of the short-lived kingdom of Kassapa. The early morning offers breathtaking views across mist-covered forests.
Polonnaruwa Vatadage - Polonnaruwa, an ancient city in Sri Lanka, boasts one of the best-planned archaeological relic sites and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. (Entrance fees not included)
Sigiriya - Kandy
Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic - The golden-roofed Temple of the Sacred Tooth houses Sri Lanka’s most significant Buddhist relic – a tooth of the Buddha. During puja (offerings or prayers), the heavily guarded room containing the tooth is accessible to devotees and tourists. However, the tooth itself is not visible as it is kept in a gold casket shaped like a dagoba (stupa), which contains a series of six dagoba caskets of decreasing size.
Kandy Lake Club - Cultural Dance Show - The Kandy Lake Club Cultural Dance Show is an exhilarating display of Sri Lankan arts, dance, and cultural heritage, a must-see for any visitor to the historic city of Kandy.
Kandy View Point - A scenic mountain retreat, Kandy Viewpoint offers a panoramic view of the historic city of Kandy.
Kandy - Nuwara Eliya
Royal Botanical Gardens - Renowned for its orchid collection, the Royal Botanical Gardens feature over 300 varieties of orchids, spices, medicinal plants, and palm trees. The garden spans 147 acres and receives annual rainfall for 200 days.
Ramboda Waterfall - This mesmerizing waterfall cascades down two tiers of rock, with stark white water dropping 358 feet into a rocky pool. As the 11th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka, it is a must-see. Nature enthusiasts can enjoy a 2 km uphill trail leading to this stunning site.
Damro Labookellie Tea Centre and Tea Garden - The Damro Labookellie Tea Centre, formerly Mackwoods, is the oldest tea center in Sri Lanka. Tea bushes are replanted every 100 years across over 5,000 hectares of lush tea plantations. The factory produces white and black tea, while green tea is processed elsewhere and sent to Damro. Visitors can learn about the different tea-making processes during a factory tour.
Gregory Lake - Also known as Gregory Reservoir, this lake is situated in the heart of the tea country hill city of Nuwara Eliya in Sri Lanka.
Nuwara Eliya - Ella
Nine Arches Bridge - Located on the Demodara loop, the Nine Arch Bridge in Ella spans 91 meters at a height of 24 meters. Its beautiful nine arches create a picturesque setting amidst dense jungle and agricultural landscapes. Behind the railway, a forest thrives, and below, tea leaves are cultivated. It is truly one of the most remarkable places to visit in Sri Lanka.
Rawana Falls - Named after the demon King Ravana, who, according to folklore, ruled Sri Lanka, Ravana Falls is a popular sightseeing attraction and ranks as one of the widest waterfalls in the country.
Little Adam’s Peak View Point - Ella is a hiking hotspot in Sri Lanka’s mountain country. The views from hikes in Ella are phenomenal, with the region known for its tea plantations and spectacular mountain ranges. Little Adam’s Peak Hike offers some of the best views without requiring hours of hiking, making it perfect for an unforgettable sunset.
Ella - Yala
Yala Safari - Yala is a must-see in Sri Lanka. Located in the southeast of the island, this exceptional game reserve is the country’s most popular for good reason. It is believed to have the highest density of leopards per square kilometer in the world. Yala covers an area of 1,260 square kilometers and is divided into five blocks. Block I is the most visited and rewarding destination for a leopard safari. Although leopards are usually elusive, sightings in Yala are excellent.
Lipton’s Seat - Lipton’s Seat is one of Sri Lanka’s most impressive viewpoints (unless it’s misty and cloudy, which is why early morning visits are recommended). The Scottish tea baron Sir Thomas Lipton used to survey his growing empire from here, and today, it is said you can see across emerald hills and tea estates to seven different provinces.
Yala - Galle
Mirissa Beach - Mirissa is an incredible beach in the south that should not be missed.
Coconut Tree Hill - A stunning viewing point, Coconut Tree Hill is just a 15-minute walk from Mirissa Beach, offering a small coconut tree grove atop a hillock.
Weligama Beach - Another beautiful beach in the south.
Galle
Galle Dutch Fort - The Galle Fort is the largest remaining fortress in Asia built by European imperial powers. Also known as Dutch Fort or Ramparts of Galle, this architectural and archaeological marvel was first constructed in 1588 by the Portuguese and lavishly rebuilt by the Dutch in the 17th century. Despite the passage of time, Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, remains well-preserved.
Galle - Bentota
Hikkaduwa Beach - Hikkaduwa is one of Sri Lanka’s premier surfing spots, offering clear, warm waters. The waves range from 4 to 11 feet. Surfing in Hikkaduwa is well-known, with the best conditions during the dry season from November to March. There are four hotspots in Hikkaduwa. Scuba diving and snorkeling in clear waters are popular activities, providing an ecological way to observe the colorful fish. The coral sanctuary along Hikkaduwa’s coast is a large, shallow body of water surrounded by a reef, adorned with layers of multicolored corals and home to countless colorful fish.
Madu River Safari - Enjoy a magical speed-boat ride along the beautiful Madu River, a wetland estuary covering 900 hectares, with 770 hectares covered by water and 64 islands. The boat ride offers a closer look at this complex wetland ecosystem, a world heritage site protected by the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, and one of the last wetlands in Sri Lanka with a pristine mangrove forest.
Bentota
Kosgoda Turtle Conservation and Research Centre - This experience is fun, meaningful, and awe-inspiring. Sea turtles swim thousands of miles during their lifetime, returning to the same beach where they were born to lay their eggs. Their journey is remarkable, but due to increased human activity, their population is declining. These hatcheries help balance the scales, giving turtles a fighting chance.
Kande Viharaya Temple - Discovered in 1734, this temple has been a significant site for worshippers and is considered one of the most sacred temples on the island. Within the sacred premises, you’ll find a stupa, a 300-year-old Bodhi Tree in the garden, a Relic Chamber (the oldest structure within the sacred site), the Upulvan Devalaya, and other temples, including Kataragama and Pattini Devalaya.
