Edinburgh to Inverness

Forth Bridge - Departing Edinburgh and heading north, travelers will encounter the iconic Forth Bridge, a masterpiece of Scottish engineering and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This 19th-century marvel was once the world’s longest cantilever bridge. It stands alongside the 20th-century Forth Road Bridge and the 21st-century Queensferry Crossing, which opened in 2017. Pitlochry - Take a break in the historic village of Pitlochry, nestled in the heart of Scotland. Revel in the stunning scenery, fresh air, and the rich clan history of the area.

Cairngorms National Park - Continue north through the western side of the dramatic Cairngorm National Park, the UK’s largest national park. It is cherished for its serene lochs, towering Munros, and significant historical events.

Highland Folk Museum - Experience 18th-century Highland life at the ‘Highland Folk Museum’ in Newtonmore, where visitors can explore authentic Highland blackhouses. Discover the simple homes, traditional clothing, and daily lives of people from 300 years ago. The museum also features an on-site café for lunch during the 90-minute visit. As a filming location for ‘Outlander,’ it offers a unique glimpse into the lives and challenges of the Highland people. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. The museum is open seasonally and is replaced by Ruthven Barracks during the winter.

Clava Cairns - After visiting Culloden, arrive at Clava Cairns, the inspiration for ‘Craig Na Dun’ in the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. These intriguing Bronze-Age standing stones and burial chambers are believed to be over 4,000 years old. Walk among the stones and learn about the creators of this fascinating site.

Culloden Battlefield - The guide will lead visitors to Culloden Moor, where the infamous 1746 battle took place, marking the last battle on British soil. This event ended Bonnie Prince Charlie’s aspirations of becoming king. Walking on this solemn site, where many Highlanders perished, is a poignant experience for many Scots, as it symbolizes the end of “old Scotland.” The battle had lasting impacts on Scotland, Britain, and Europe.

Inverness Cathedral - Arrive in Inverness around 6:30 PM at the city center drop-off at Inverness Cathedral on Ardross Street, IV3 5NN. The evening is free to explore the city, dine with fellow travelers, or enjoy a meal at a local restaurant or traditional Highland pub. Inverness offers a wide range of dining options, including the national dish of Haggis, Neeps & Tatties, paired with Scotch Whisky or a Local Organic Beer (try the Black Isle Brewery Bar!). During peak season, it is advisable to book a table in advance for larger groups. After dinner, the world-famous Hootenanny bar, featuring traditional Scottish musicians, is highly recommended.

Roundtrip to Isle of Skye

Black Cuillin - Pass by the majestic Sligachan River flowing from the Black Cuillin Mountains, a magical spot where the guide will share local folklore about the island’s Fairies and Giants.

Inverness to Edinburgh

Loch Ness - The guide will take visitors to the northern shores of Loch Ness, where an optional boat cruise (tickets not included) is available to explore the area’s features, history, and lore.

Commando Monument - Along the route, stop at the Commando Memorial, the 1942 training ground for Britain’s Special Forces. This harsh yet breathtakingly beautiful site features a statue of heroes overlooking the Nevis range. Bring a camera for one of Scotland’s best photo opportunities. Weather permitting, Ben Nevis, the UK’s tallest mountain, may also be visible.

Glenfinnan Viaduct - If timing allows, guests on the 3-Day tour may have the chance to see the Jacobite Steam Train (April - late September 2024) crossing the magnificent Glenfinnan Viaduct.
