A Taste of the Sea

As a seasoned surfer, I’ve spent countless hours riding the waves and exploring the coastal gems of Central America. But this time, I traded my surfboard for a fork and embarked on a culinary adventure in Panama City. The Panama Flavors Tour promised 24 unique tastes, and I was eager to dive in.

Our journey began at the bustling Mercado De Marisco Cinta Costera, a vibrant fish market where the Atlantic and Pacific oceans meet in a symphony of seafood. The air was filled with the salty aroma of fresh catches, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement as we sampled two types of ceviche. The tangy flavors danced on my palate, a refreshing start to our day.

As we strolled through the market, I marveled at the variety of sea creatures on display. It reminded me of the diverse marine life I’ve encountered while surfing the waves. At Café Coca-Cola, a UNESCO-recognized building, we savored a bowl of hearty sancocho. The rich, comforting flavors were a reminder of the warmth and hospitality I’ve experienced in the surf communities I’ve visited. It’s these moments of connection that make traveling so rewarding.

Our culinary journey culminated in El Chorrillo, where we tasted torrejitas de bacalao, coconut rice with escabeche fish, and a rich seafood stew. Each dish was a celebration of Panama’s diverse flavors, and I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to experience them firsthand.

As we gathered at Plaza Amador, the sound of salsa music filled the air, and the locals welcomed us with open arms. We shared drinks, danced, and even joined in a community football match. It was a fitting end to a day filled with laughter, learning, and unforgettable flavors.
