Island Dreams: A Day in San Blas Paradise
When the call of the San Blas Islands beckoned, I couldn’t resist the chance to explore their untouched beauty. Join me as I recount a day filled with island-hopping, snorkeling, and the vibrant allure of the Caribbean.
Setting Sail to Paradise
The allure of the San Blas Islands had been calling my name for quite some time. As a former professional surfer, the idea of exploring untouched Caribbean waters was irresistible. So, when I found myself in Panama City, I knew it was time to answer the call. The journey began in the early hours of the morning, with a pickup scheduled between 5 and 5:20 AM. As someone who thrives on spontaneity, the slight unpredictability of the pickup time only added to the adventure. Our driver, a friendly local, ensured we were comfortable in the air-conditioned SUV, making a couple of stops along the way for cash and refreshments.
The drive to Puerto de Carti was a winding one, filled with curves that could challenge even the most seasoned traveler. Thankfully, my years of chasing waves had taught me the importance of preparation, so I had my trusty dramamine on hand. As the cityscape faded into lush greenery, I drifted into a peaceful slumber, dreaming of the islands that awaited.
Island Hopping Bliss
Arriving at the port, the anticipation was palpable. The boat ride to the first island, Yanis, was a breezy affair, with the warm Caribbean sun kissing our skin. The island was a paradise for snorkelers, with vibrant marine life just beneath the surface. I couldn’t resist diving in, the water embracing me like an old friend. The thrill of exploring the underwater world never gets old, and Yanis delivered in spades.
Lunch was a delightful affair, with options of fish or chicken. I opted for the chicken, which was seasoned to perfection. As we dined, the gentle waves provided a soothing soundtrack, a reminder of the ocean’s ever-present rhythm. With a full belly and a content heart, we set off for the next adventure—a natural pool teeming with starfish. While the starfish were elusive that day, the experience of floating in the crystal-clear waters was magical in its own right.
The Final Stretch
Our journey continued to Isla Perro, where the highlight was snorkeling around a sunken ship. The sight of the ship, now a vibrant reef, was a testament to nature’s resilience and beauty. As I swam among the colorful fish, I felt a deep connection to the ocean, a reminder of why I chose this life of adventure.
The final stop, Misdub Island, was the perfect place to unwind. With a piña colada in hand, I lounged on the beach, soaking in the last rays of the day. The island offered a chance to explore or simply relax, and I chose a bit of both. As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the water, I felt a profound sense of gratitude for the day’s experiences.
The journey back to Panama City was a reflective one, the memories of the day playing like a cherished film in my mind. The San Blas Day Tour had been everything I hoped for and more—a true Caribbean adventure that left me yearning for the next wave, the next island, the next story to tell.
