- Lake Sandoval - Departure is scheduled for 9:00 am, with a 45-minute boat tour along the Madre de Dios River. Upon arrival, there will be a 2-hour hike through the lush rainforest leading to Lake Sandoval, one of the largest lakes in the Tambopata National Reserve. Participants will enjoy a paddle boat ride, observing a diverse array of birds and monkeys, including species such as the shansho, cormorant, jacanas, cougar heron, hens, cotomono, friar monkey, black machín, pichicos, and sloths. There is also a possibility of encountering the endangered giant otter family, which can reach nearly two meters in length, and the largest recorded alligators, over 4 meters long. A lunch break will follow, featuring a traditional regional dish like Juane, enjoyed within the National Reserve. The return to Puerto Maldonado is planned for the afternoon, with an estimated arrival in town around 5:00 or 5:30 pm. Service concludes at this point.

Beautiful day on the lake - Very nice small group excursion with pick up directly from our hotel by boat.
Our guide was perfect and introduced us to the fauna and flora of the lake.
Contrary to what we expected, no mosquitoes
In addition, with a very good value for money.

The jungle at your fingertips - A very pleasant day through the jungle, along the Madre de Dios River and Lake Sandoval. The Gonzalo guide has made us enjoy the environment, if flora and fauna. We saw some animals We had rain but very relaxing inside the canoe. Carry umbrella or water poncho 👍.

Fantastic experience - Our guide Silvestre (hope I got the name right) has really an eagle eye and was able to show us many incredible animals. He also explained how the ecosystem works and how different species behave.

Good experience - Very good experience and half the price of the hike offered by our Pension.
Small group.
Samuel was friendly.
We saw several species of monkey, a tarantula, otters of birds and butterflies
Provide plenty of water it is very hot and humid
We did not dare to touch the lunch (transported in banana leaves and stored at room temperature, watch out for turista....)

Very nice tour if you are short of time and do not plan going deep in jungle. - Very nice tour if you are short of time and do not plan going deep in jungle. We enjoyed the lake and our tour guide was very knowledgeable and showed us different birds species and monkeys 🐒

Would recommend!! - We had such a great day! Samuel, our guide was really knowledgeable and passionate about the rain forest. We saw loads of wild life. The rain forest was stunning. So was lake Sandoval. It was paradise. Lunch was delicious too! A trip well worth taking, good value for money.

awesome sceney and well worth the time and effort - the lake is absolutely stunning and the trip to get there is interesting and a decent workout (1.5 miles thru jungle but on nice boardwalk the whole way). my guide miguel was very fun and fill of info, he really worked hard ro make the trip so good. we actuall did see plenty of monkeys, otters, birds and turrles. only gripe i had was i waited quite a while for trip to get started and the organizers came to pick me up twice my hotel after i had been waiting at their offices

Ok day, but not many animals - lower your expectations - It was OK, nothing special. Not a bad excursion, but maybe overrated based upon the other reviews. The "walk" was on a boardwalk through the jungle which was fine but no sighting of any animals because it is so well traveled. It was not clear that we would be returning the exact same route versus an alternative route back.
The lunch was delicious. Our guide was great
Being out on the lake was HOT! with no cloud coverage. Lower your expectations and it will be enjoyable.

Good but have a read. - Package was good, it takes you to the hiling spot by boat (30min) then about 1 hour hike to the lake where you can spot a caimans, otters, birds, turtles, spiders, snakes, incredible flora and monkeys.
After the lake canoe trip, we stayed for about 1h30min at a camp where we had lunch and enjoyed a rest from the heat under the trees. You could buy cold drinks there. Lunch was included and much needed.
What gave it the 3 star rating:
- we were picked up at 8h50
- arrived at the tour "shop" where we were told to wait until 9h40 for departure.
- at 9h50 we all walkes to the river's edge (boat "station")
- waited until approximately until 11h to get on the boat, that's when the tour actually started.
- at the return in Puerto Maldonado, there was no transport back to the hotel.
