Tambopata National Reserve - Upon arrival at the airport or bus station, guests will be transferred to our office. The guide will provide an overview of the tour before embarking on the adventure. For those with large luggage, it is recommended to repack and store unnecessary items, bringing only essentials for the trip. A land transfer via a 4x4 vehicle will take approximately one hour to reach the banks of the Tambopata River, while a river journey would take over an hour (for informational purposes). At this location, guests will board a boat to the lodge. In the afternoon, after lunch, there will be an opportunity to explore the rainforest on foot, where guests can observe animals in their natural environment, including amphibians, mammals, reptiles, and fascinating insects, among other species.
Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick – Spotting Caiman & Jungle Exploring
Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick - The day begins early at 4:30 am with an extraordinary boat journey to the world’s largest macaw clay lick, “EL CHUNCHO,” which takes about 1.5 hours. Along the way, guests may spot species such as capybaras, the world’s largest rodents, tapirs, and possibly even the stunning South American feline, the jaguar. Many guests have captured photographic evidence of encounters with these magnificent mammals. Upon arrival at the Tambopata Macaw Clay Licks, hundreds of parrots of various species can be seen consuming clay from the riverbank wall. Guests will settle into chairs to witness one of the most breathtaking natural bird spectacles in the world. Parrots are followed by three species of the most vibrant macaws in America, including reds and greens, blues, and yellows, gathering to consume clay essential for their diet and toxin elimination. On an active day, hundreds of these magnificent birds can be seen flying overhead, offering a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Guests will return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. Later, a walk through the botanical garden will reveal fruit, timber, and medicinal species native to the area. In the afternoon, there will be further jungle exploration, providing more opportunities to observe larger animals in the Tambopata Reserve forest. The evening offers a chance to rest or embark on another night walk.
