Tonle Sap Lake - Experience a floating village and observe the daily life of local residents. The floating village at Tonle Sap Lake (The Great Lake) is a community living on the water, complete with schools, markets, and children selling fruit along the lake.
SIEM REAP – ANGKOR WAT TOUR
Angkor Thom - Enter through the South Gate of Angkor Thom Temple and admire the wonders of the mysterious Bayon, the Terrace of Elephants, and the Terrace of the Leper King.
Ta Prohm Temple - Ta Prohm gained 21st-century fame from the movie Tomb Raider featuring Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft. Today, with Lara long gone, this temple is a must-visit for most tourists. Many areas of Ta Prohm display a fascinating relationship between the roots of the Spung tree (Tetrameles Nudiflora) and ancient stones covered in moss. It’s truly a photographer’s paradise, so don’t miss the chance to capture your own explorer’s moments.
Angkor Wat - This architectural masterpiece was constructed in the 12th century, taking 30 years to complete, and represents the Khmer civilization at its peak. Spanning 81 hectares, it is one of the largest religious monuments ever built. Angkor Wat, the largest Hindu temple in the world, is one of the largest religious monuments globally, built between the 9th and 13th centuries. Its iconic five ancient towers are now featured on the Kingdom of Cambodia’s flag.
BENG MELEA TEMPLE - KOH KER TEMPLE
Beng Mealea - A stunning jungle temple located about 60 km northeast of Siem Reap. It is one of Cambodia’s “new” highlights, having been cleared of mines only at the end of 2003. Built by Jayavarman VII in the style of Angkor Wat, its scale is immense, covering over one square kilometer within its moat. Approached by four causeways, Beng Mealea appears as a massive pile of rubble partially concealed by trees. Upon closer inspection, the high walls and ancient Khmer architecture reveal themselves. Covered in vegetation and with minimal tourist facilities, this temple looks much as it did when early French explorers discovered it.
Koh Ker Temple - Located northeast of Siem Reap, this site represents the remnants of the Khmer Empire’s capital from 928 AD to 944 AD, a unique period in the Age of Angkor. After the Khmer capital was first moved to the Angkor area in the late 9th century, it remained there for nearly 500 years, with one brief interruption. Just a few decades after its establishment at Angkor, there was a disruption in the royal succession for reasons that remain a topic of academic debate.
