SMM Silk Reeling Industry (ARM) - Ramanagara is renowned as the silk reeling hub of Karnataka. Visitors can explore a facility where silk cocoons are immersed in hot water, and fine silk is expertly reeled under the supervision of skilled female workers.
Government Cocoon (Silk) Market, Ramanagara - The Government of Karnataka has established infrastructure to facilitate the trade of silk cocoons between silk rearers and reelers in Ramanagara, making it the largest market in the region. Daily, numerous silk cocoons are traded, offering a fantastic opportunity to engage with farmers and buyers while capturing memorable photos. Visitors will also gain insights into the silkworm’s life cycle and its historical significance in Karnataka. If the Ramanagara silk cocoon market is unavailable, the Channapatna market offers an equally vibrant experience.
Bannur - In Bannur, visitors can explore a silkworm breeding center where male and female silkworms are paired. Once they mate and produce eggs, these are collected and sold to farmers who nurture the silkworms with mulberry leaves until they form cocoons. Here, local women skillfully differentiate between male and female silkworms, preparing them for egg production.
Keshava Temple - The Keshava Temple at Somanathapur has recently been designated a World Heritage monument by UNESCO. This remarkable temple, constructed in the 13th century during the Hoysala dynasty, ranks among the top three of the 92 temples built by the Hoysalas. It is set on a star-shaped platform adorned with high-quality sculptures. Notable features include the symmetrical and geometric lathe-turned pillars, 16 unique ceilings each featuring a banana flower motif, exquisite statues of Venugopala and Janardhana in two of the three sanctum sanctorum, intricately detailed vimanas, 480 distinct elephant carvings, and a multitude of gods and goddesses. Approximately 500 artists dedicated 40 years to constructing this temple, which was later vandalized by the Mughals in the 14th century. Although it no longer serves a ritualistic purpose, it remains a testament to artistic excellence.
KSIC Mysore Silk Factory Visit + Silk Shopping + Mysore Palace + Devaraja Market
Mysore Palace - The Mysore Palace is the epitome of opulence and luxury in South India, often referred to as the “Palace of Versailles” of India. Situated on 45 acres of land, the palace complex includes numerous temples. It is divided into two sections: one managed by the State Government and the other by the royal Wodeyar family.
