- Frostastaðavatn - Frostastaðavatn (Icelandic for lake of the frosty place) is a lake in Iceland. It is located in the Highlands of Iceland, close to the renowned mountains of Landmannalaugar and the volcano Hekla. Volcanic activity is evident around this lake, such as the famous mixed lava flows from the 1477 combined eruptions of the Torfajökull and Bárðarbunga volcanic systems reaching the shore (lava flows of rhyolitic as well as basaltic composition). Driving time between stops is included.
- Landmannalaugar - Landmannalaugar is situated in Iceland’s Fjallabak Nature Reserve, on the edge of the Laugahraun lava field, formed by an eruption around 1477. It is well-known for its natural geothermal hot springs and scenic landscape. Landmannalaugar marks the northern end of the Laugavegur hiking trail. Driving time between stops is included.
- Volcano Hekla - Hekla is an active stratovolcano in southern Iceland, standing at 1,491 m (4,892 ft). It is one of Iceland’s most active volcanoes, with over 20 eruptions since 1210. During the Middle Ages, Icelandic Norse referred to it as the “Gateway to Hell,” a notion that spread across Europe.
Hekla is part of a 40 km (25 mi) long volcanic ridge. The most active section, a 5.5 km (3.4 mi) long fissure named Heklugjá, is considered part of Hekla proper. The volcano resembles an overturned boat, with its keel being a series of craters, two of which are typically the most active. Driving time between stops is included.
