FALSE ADVERTISING & DOUBLE SCAM – SOLD ME A COLOSSEUM TOUR THEY DIDN’T EVEN HAVE - I had an absolutely unacceptable experience with Tripadvisor, and I strongly urge others to think twice before booking through them. I booked a Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill tour months in advance for $77 to avoid exactly this kind of situation while traveling internationally. For context, tickets were available directly at the colosseum website for around €24, but I chose to pay more through their platform because I trusted their reliability based on past experience. Two days before my tour, they canceled my confirmed booking due to a “third-party provider issue.” Completely unacceptable given how far in advance I booked. Trying to salvage my trip, I contacted support and was pushed into rebooking a “replacement” tour for $177 (even after their so-called 5% “compensation”). That’s more than double the original price. Here’s the worst part: They resold me a Colosseum tour at a higher price WITHOUT ACTUALLY HAVING TICKETS AVAILABLE. The second booking was also canceled because….there were no tickets. So why sell it in the first place? This is not just poor service, it feels like clear misrepresentation. To make matters worse, when I contacted customer service again, the representative (Mary Kom) was extremely rude and dismissive, repeatedly saying “you got your refund” and refusing to escalate the issue. I didn’t spend thousands of dollars traveling to Italy for a refund—I came for the experience. End result: Original booking canceled last minute Forced into paying more than double for a replacement Replacement also canceled due to lack of availability Dismissive and unhelpful customer service This was supposed to be a highlight visit to the Colosseum, and instead it turned into one of the worst booking experiences I’ve ever had. I will not be using this platform again, and I recommend others be extremely cautious when booking “guaranteed” experiences here.
