John T led the best tour of our trip. - We had an amazing time, and our tour guide - John T - made the experience all the more memorable. Between an encyclopedic knowledge of the areas history and his interaction with the small group and the broader environment, we had the best tour of our trip with John. It was an amazing chance to see the ins and outs of gladitorial combat and the context where and when it happened, plus the reality of daily life in and around the forum.

Great Tour! - The tour was so worth it. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We learned so much about the building of the Colosseum and the Roman's that patronized it. It is hard to believe that mankind was able to build something so extraordinary by hand.

Invaluable Guide and Great Lively Experience - Paolo was an incredible guide with a very thoughtful approach to engaging all of his tour group in the incredible history of Rome. His stories and examples were insightful, interesting, and engaging to adults as well as the teens and tweens on the tour. Our kids truly enjoyed it even though it was quite educational. Paolo went out of his way to bring context to his stories and the Roman Forum by showing reproductive drawings on his ipad, which was extremely helpful. When signing up, I thought the tour seemed a little pricey for a family of 5, but in the end, I felt it was well worth it. We would not have gotten very much by just walking around ourselves, and we left feeling like we had really gained some insights into the fascinating history that Paolo brought to life.

Amazing tour with fabulous guide! - Amazing! Tour guide (Marta) was very knowledgeable and spoke great English. The Colosseum was the highlight, especially accessing the arena floor, viewing the underground areas and the views from the second level. Roman Forum and Palatine Hill were also impressive. Great tour.

Could Be Better - The tour was just OK. First, they were using cheap hearing devices that didn't work and the guide was unable to troubleshoot. Another person showed up and she couldn't make them work either so we went without them. We have been on many tours and a quality hearing device matters. Thomas was very knowledgeable and organized but his delivery wasn't the best. He had too many references to modern culture. I don't need to hear about Harry Potter. He was a bit cynical and seemed burnt out.

Itinerary is great, specific guide not so much - Mixed bag for my family. The tour experience (itinerary, ticketing, access, information) was all excellent and I really recommend Through Eternity in general. However, our specific guide (Thomas) was a disappointment. He had a very confrontational attitude toward the entire group (scolded a 16-year-old boy in the group for asking too "obvious" a question) and made us all uncomfortable asking questions at all. He also constantly told pretty misogynistic stories about past tour guests, and all the really "stupid" questions they asked (always stories about women, often commenting on their appearance, including doing an offensive accent to impersonate a black woman). Talked at length about his ex-wife and personal life in general. When we entered the Colosseum he passed off his massive binder and refused to take it back to carry it again, lol. It was a shame because ultimately he had lots of great information and obviously knew a lot, but had a really condescending attitude to us tourists in the group. He himself is American but seemed to think all the Americans visiting Rome complete idiots (also, we're "dumb tourists" there to learn from you, we trust you to teach us!). I spoke directly to Through Eternity about all of this and they were very accommodating for a Vatican tour for us on the following day, and listened to my family's concerns appropriately, so I don't want to ding them as a company too much. Overall I do think going to this section of Rome with a guide is necessary because despite all I mentioned above, we still did learn a lot :)
