A Warm Welcome to the World of Rum

As soon as I set foot on Galleon Beach, I knew I was in for a treat. The sun was shining, the waves were gently lapping at the shore, and the air was filled with the sweet scent of the Caribbean. I was here for the Rum Making Masterclass and couldn’t wait to dive into the world of rum-making.

Our host, Jody, greeted us with a warm smile and an infectious enthusiasm that set the tone for the day. Her knowledge of rum was impressive, and her ability to share it with humor and warmth made the experience all the more enjoyable. As someone who spends a lot of time in the ocean, I appreciated her deep connection to the island and its traditions.

We started with a tasting session, sampling a variety of rums that ranged from smooth and mellow to bold and fiery. Each sip was a journey through the history and culture of the Caribbean, and I found myself savoring every moment.

Crafting My Own Rum

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the chance to create my own custom blend of rum. Armed with my own individual still, I set to work, experimenting with different flavorings and techniques. It was a surprisingly challenging process, but Jody was there every step of the way, offering guidance and encouragement.

As I mixed and measured, I couldn’t help but think of the parallels between crafting rum and riding the perfect wave. Both require patience, skill, and a touch of creativity. And just like surfing, the end result was incredibly rewarding.

By the end of the session, I had my very own bottle of rum, complete with a personalized label. It was a tangible reminder of a day well spent, and I couldn’t wait to share it with my partner back home.

A Memorable Journey

The journey to and from the Rum Academy was made all the more enjoyable by our driver, Imran. His knowledge of the island and his friendly demeanor made the trip feel like an adventure in itself. We chatted about everything from local surf spots to the best places to grab a bite to eat, and his recommendations were spot on.

As we made our way back to Galleon Beach, I reflected on the day’s experiences. The Rum Making Masterclass had been a perfect blend of education, creativity, and fun. It was a reminder of why I love island life so much – the opportunity to explore new things, meet wonderful people, and create lasting memories.
