- Romney Manor - As you drive past Romney Batik (Caribelle Batik), catch a glimpse of its gardens on the way to the forest.
A short distance from Romney, the forest pathway will become visible. Here, you will leave the vehicle, and the guide will provide a briefing and distribute walking sticks. During the two-hour walk (one hour in and one hour out of the forest), you may spot the Green Vervet Monkey and various bird species, along with diverse flora.
Sometimes the monkeys remain hidden, especially at certain times of the day.
The tour guide will introduce some medicinal plants and trees, such as Trumpet Bush, Black Sage, and Sour Sop, while exploring this exotic part of the forest. Some plants and trees have grown tall and thick with lush buttress roots, such as Citrus, Saman, and Locus Trees.
This tour is suitable for individuals with a medium physical fitness level (level 3 out of 5). Participants should be able to walk uphill, navigate narrow paths, and step over stones and small rocks without physical challenges. If unsure, it is advisable to contact the supplier before booking.
A light snack of pastry and a beverage will be served before returning to your hotel or port.
RECOMMENDATION: Bring bottled water, wear sneakers with durable soles, apply sunscreen, and wear light trousers or shorts just above the knees, T-shirts or polo shirts, blouses, or any lightweight top with short sleeves.
- Old Road Rum Co at Wingfield Estate Sugar Plantation Ruins - This is on the way to the forest. Originally, this estate produced tobacco and indigo in the 1600s, but sugar became a more successful and profitable export product. Today, remnants of an aqueduct, chimney, mill house (for crushing cane), and a rum distillery discovered in 2013 can be seen. Part of this area is visible as you journey into the rainforest.
