Great food tour in Chinatown - Fantastic time today in Chinatown with Stretchy Pants. Four delicious food stops, and some great history. We learned about the first Chinese immigrants and ate great Cantonese food. Our guide Jacob introduced us to a lot of the shop owners and we got to hear about their lives. The highlight was the tea tasting at the end. Learning about all the different teas and meeting the owner who runs many restaurants in Chinatown. Highly recommend.

Great time. Arrive hungry! - As former residents of SF we were in town for a couple of shows. Given we had a free afternoon I booked this tour in Chinatown. We had a great time with Marci! Great variety of food and drink as well as some interesting history of the neighborhood.

A great afternoon in Chinatown - I went on this tour with my wife and adult daughter. Dale was our guide, and he did an excellent job. There were 7 in our group, plus Dale, and we got along great. The tour was a great blend of seeing and learning a little about SF's Chinatown and having some tasty food. I especially like the tea tasting and learning about the different teas and their benefits. I very much recommend this tour and would also now like to do the North Beach tour if I get the opportunity to visit SF again.

Dale+++ - Dale had many great anecdotes about this cultural area. How it evolved, its colorful characters, back alleys. It came alive. He made sure food portions were ample and we were comfortable. We were a large group but what do you expect in August. Highly recommend.

- Dale was our tour guide, and I can't recommend him highly enough. The food we tried was enjoyable, though it’s worth noting that this is a tourist-focused activity, so the stops are more about accessibility than hidden culinary gems. That said, the highlight of the tour was definitely strolling through the city and discovering fascinating pieces of history I hadn’t known before. Dale truly made the experience memorable.

Left early - I left halfway through with my wife. The fortune cookie factory tour was canceled since it was too busy, it would have been nice to know about this ahead of time. The food we had until then was excellent (all of the food in Chinatown was great). The host (Jacob) focused on the history of the Chinese underground gambling market and made some generalizations about elderly locals walking by with groceries on their way to gamble during the tour. Host also spent much of the tour asking targeted questions to the only Chinese woman in the tour, and he put her on the spot asking her about Chinese/Taiwanese censorship. I grew up in the area and felt this tour could have highlighted so many amazing things about the community and its growth story, but instead decided to just retell it's worse stories while insulting the locals to their face. I would have appreciated more historical content behind how Chinatown was developed and how the community grew from a ghetto to a tourist attraction, rather than cherry picked stories about the areas darker side. Hopefully the second half of the tour was better than the first. Two stars since the food was good.

A bad tour that stereotypes asian culture - We were so uncomfortable that we left the tour halfway through. We don't know what the second half of the tour was like. We thought this was supposed to be a food tour, with added commentary about the history of Chinatown. Instead, like half of the "history" shared was negative stereotypes and insults to Chinese immigrants. A tour guide will lead you through the streets and alleys while talking nonstop cherry-picking just the bad stories of "illegal activities" from 1800's Chinatown. Barely mentioning any of the positive aspects of Chinese culture. He could have talked about all of the community developments since the 1800s. Instead, the guide kept taking us to alleyways saying so much illegal activities still happen on these streets, and he taught us how to stereotype the local businesses. He said if we see a small sign and camera's by the door, then that means it's an illegal business. Which is untrue. Many of those doors are just people's personal houses, not a door to some illegal gambling ring or whatever. All of this tour is happening while locals are trying to grocery shop and live their everyday lives. A few locals overheard the crap coming out of his mouth and laughed at how absurd it was. The guide also kept singling out the only Chinese person in our tour group and asking her direct questions, including questions about Taiwan and Chinese censorship which was not his place. Being a part of this tour felt like mocking and belittling the asian community, instead of celebrating it.
