Srebrenica is recognized for the tragic events that occurred during the Bosnian war. Over the course of three days, the largest genocide massacre since World War II took place here, marking a significant historical event.
On the Srebrenica – Valley of Death Tour, visitors can explore the Srebrenica Potočari Memorial Complex. Established in 2001, this memorial was officially opened to the public by former US President Bill Clinton.
During the tour of the Potocari memorial, guides provide insights into the history of Srebrenica and the events that transpired during the difficult war period. Due to these events and the unresolved genocide status, Srebrenica has been designated as a UN protected zone.
While daily life in Srebrenica has returned to normal, many women and children who survived the massacres and lost loved ones still struggle to find peace, as the remains of their loved ones have not yet been found. Although several mass graves have been excavated, many remain undiscovered.
In addition to its tragic past, Srebrenica and Potocari are also known for their stunning natural landscapes, typical of Bosnia. The area boasts abundant wildlife, lush forests with pine trees, thermal springs, and charming villages with country homes, all of which are highlights of a tour to Srebrenica.
During the tour, visitors will also learn about the “July 11th Musala,” the Turbeh, the Wall of Memories, and the Museum of Genocide.
