For neophytes - I'm giving the guide, Maria, 5 stars. The tour, though, is designed for people unfamiliar with Japanese food, and did not broaden any horizons or open any eyes. The restaurants visited were a nice blend of larger multistory institutions filled with mostly tourists and after-work parties, and cramped family-owned off-the-beaten-path eateries that would ordinarily be bypassed by the overseas visitor. The quantity of food was generous - I couldn't even finish the last items, and alcoholic beverages like beer and wine were included. I was hoping to be exposed to local specialties that are not available or even known about in the US, but the fare was pretty standard edamame, karaage, sashimi, grilled fish, tempura, yakitori, tonkatsu, etc. There was a tasty fish head stew that was unusual, but difficult to share and to eat. For the visitor whose previous exposure to Japanese food is limited to cup-o-noodles and fake crab California rolls dipped in fake wasabi, this is a great panoramic introduction, but it is not for the Japanese cuisine enthusiast hoping to dig deeper into local culture.

A well-worth tour given by Hadyn! - We had our tour on the 14th. Hadyn was a great guide who was very enthusiastic throughout the tour, introducing not only food but also the culture and social landscape of the Shinjuku area. Extra thanks to the last-minute flexibility in terms of switching tour groups around so we and our other friends who booked separately could stay together.

Great food tour with Lisa - Lisa was a great guide. Led as through the Shinjuku area to places we would not have found on our own. Food was plentiful varied and authentic. Most dishes very tasty. Had a great time and would highly recommend this food tour.

Don’t miss this! - We had the best time! A great variety of food and drink. New things to try and good company to share it with! Lloyd and Noah were good fun and had plenty of interesting snippets to share. It was great to walk straight into restaurants while others were waiting. Definitely recommended 😊

Incredible culinary and cultural experience walking around Shinjuku - This walking tour was an incredible culinary and cultural experience walking around Shinjuku. Everything was well planned and our tour guide Rio was very lively and informative about each food item and the sightseeing as we strolled the streets. I highly recommend this tour!

Nice to visit some local hot spots - The food stops were great and it was nice to see the happening areas. Our guide was nice but he was stretched because our group was larger than the 10 max posted. He tried his best talking to each person individually. I am dissatisfied with Trip Advisor because I could not get to my booking. I finally found it on Viator
