Good visit - An excellent way to spend a couple of hours, especially if weather not good. Found it very informative. I would advise taking a warden tour as you get a good overview of what it was like

Why not ... - After getting lost and finding ourselves at the doors of the prison, we thought why not... The staff were amazing, Sharron up front was very informative and we went on self guided tour. The history, the information, and scale of building were very impressive! Highly recommend!

Highly recommend going! - We had an amazing time here, it was really interesting to see inside the prison and read the history of it. We definitely felt a heavy atmosphere in the haunted cell and we would like to return here for the ghost tours!

Highly recommended - Superb but frightening insight into prison life and conditions; everything appears intact as it was left when the placed closed down. Its past was quite disturbing, but serves to illustrate what can happen if you break the law. Particularly poignant was the execution area. We should all take time to visit institutions like this

Give it a go - Great place to visit. We did a self guided tour and looked through all areas of the prison. Sharon and Lisa were great on Reception and were so helpful with the questions we had at the end of the tour. It would have been useful to have some more arrows to guide us through just because the site is so big and maze like. So interesting to learn about the history of the jail and in particular through the ages and the prolific criminals. There were recordings in certain areas that were interesting to hear because we found out a lot more and it was easier than reading the boards. I imagine the guided tour would he very informative and would consider that instead of self guided in the future.

Not disabled friendly - Very disappointed after trying to find disabled parking . Found the station car park which needed a degree to register car . Not greeted on arrival and staff not very friendly . Reception girl needed to smile . We had to avoid too coaches with teenagers .no advice on chair lifts or disabled toilet . Very difficult to find way around .if disabled one place to avoid .

Don’t bother - An expensive way to kill an hour at most. Parking is an absolute nightmare, there is little information, and not much to see. This “attraction” is what happens when you take an abandoned prison and try to turn it into a tourist attraction for £50. It has the potential to be brilliant, informative, interactive and fun, but it is none of those.
