- Burra - Starting from either the Clare or Burra Visitor’s Centre, guests can also be picked up from their accommodation in Burra. It is recommended to take the Burra and Mount Bryan day tour as a follow-up to the Clare to Red Banks tour. However, it can also be enjoyed as a standalone tour to discover Burra and its stunning surrounding region.
The day begins with breakfast and coffee at the charming St Just Cafe, allowing time to explore the town square and main street. The journey continues with the Heritage Passport tour, offering a choice of 11 National Heritage listed sites, such as the Monster Mine Site, Morphett’s Engine House, and Redruth Gaol. Each site narrates a story, from Burra’s vibrant mining era to its cultural development. The tour progresses at a comfortable pace, with ample time for exploration.
Lunch is then collected from Burra or picked up from Hallett Country Store on the way to Mount Bryan (subject to opening times). While in Hallett, there is an opportunity to visit the unique store and grab a snack before proceeding to Mount Bryan.
- Mount Bryan - Traveling east from the Barrier Highway, the route passes the breathtaking Razorback Range and Mount Bryan to reach Sir Hubert Wilkens’ cottage. Restored in 2001 by Dick Smith and the Australian Geographic Society, it offers a moment to reflect on the life of this legendary explorer and his Burra roots. The journey continues along dirt roads to Dares Hill Summit, offering a spectacular view before exploring William Dare’s ruins and heading back toward Caroona Creek.
Throughout the journey, there are opportunities to stop, take photos, relax, discuss the indigenous and European histories of the region, and admire the wildlife. The area is known for its dramatic views and abundant wildlife, including kangaroos, wallabies, emus, and the chance to see the magnificent wedgetail eagle.
As the day draws to a close, the route heads toward Caroona Creek and back to the Barrier Highway, stopping at the famous Midnight Oil house from the 1987 album ‘Diesel and Dust’. As the sun sets, the view provides a perfect end to a wonderful day.
- Clare Valley - Returning to the Clare Valley with a deeper appreciation of the landscape and history of the region, after enjoying plenty of fresh air and open spaces, guests can look forward to dining at one of the many excellent establishments in town. Assistance is available to find the perfect place to spend the evening based on individual tastes and preferences. At the end of the day, guests can be returned to the most convenient location in the area.
