- 26 Kamisannomachi - Guests are invited to our exclusive townhouse located on the main street of Takayama’s Old Town, a historic residence that has been in our family for generations. Typically not open to the public, this 200-year-old house was once a local clinic where many babies were delivered. Visitors will be guided through its distinctive areas—the former clinic and our traditional living quarters—while we share stories about life in Takayama and our embrace of a slower, seasonal lifestyle in the Hida mountains.
The experience begins with Japanese tea and delicate wagashi (traditional sweets), followed by a brief introduction to Japanese home cooking. Guests will then don a traditional apron and step into our semi-outdoor kitchen, a serene space where meals are prepared much like our ancestors did. Together, we will make dashi, explore essential ingredients, and cook five seasonal dishes tailored to individual preferences. To conclude, enjoy fresh seasonal fruit prepared in a uniquely Japanese style for dessert.
This is not your typical cooking class. It is an intimate, heartwarming experience where guests will connect with two long-time locals (both fluent in English!) and discover what it feels like to be welcomed into a genuine Japanese home, away from the crowds.
