Moshi Town - Forest Camp
Mount Kilimanjaro - The adventure begins at 0800 as travelers depart from Moshi and head to Londross Gate to secure permits and clearance. After registration, the trek to Forest Camp commences, where dinner and an overnight stay await after 3-4 hours of trekking.
Big Tree Camp (2780m) to Shira 2 Camp (3900m)
Mount Kilimanjaro - Today’s journey covers significant ground as trekkers traverse a plateau of grassy moorland and heather, dotted with volcanic rock formations. Passing through Shira 1 Camp, there are often views of Kibo Peak floating on the clouds as the trek continues towards Shira 2. The route gains a fair amount of altitude, with some steep sections. As the journey progresses towards Shira 2, trekkers can enjoy views of the Northern Ice fields from the mountain’s western side, offering unique perspectives of Kibo. The steady climb across the Shira Plateau moorland aids acclimatization and provides stunning panoramic views.
Shira 2 Camp (3900m) to Barranco Camp (3960m)
Kilimanjaro National Park - The trek begins with an ascent offering expansive panoramic views, entering the upland desert climatic zone and traversing the lava ridges beneath the Western Breach glaciers. The distinct pinnacle of the Lava Tower (4640 m) marks the day’s high point and a perfect lunch spot. In the afternoon, a steep descent leads to the night’s camp at the base of the Great Barranco Valley (3960 m), sheltered by towering cliffs yet offering extensive views of the plains below.
Barranco Camp (3960m) to Karanga Camp (3963m)
Mount Kilimanjaro - The day starts with a descent into the Great Barranco, a vast ravine. The route then ascends steeply up the Great Barranco Wall, separating trekkers from Kibo’s southeastern slopes. The climb is over rock, not technical but long and tiring. Passing beneath the Heim and Kersten glaciers, the trek continues towards the Karanga Valley. From there, a steep climb leads to the night’s camp at Karanga Camp, set at 3963m. For those feeling strong, a mid-afternoon acclimatization trek to around 4200m is available before returning to camp for the night.
Karanga Camp (3963) to Barafu Camp (4640m)
Mount Kilimanjaro - After a restful night and breakfast, the journey continues to Barafu Camp at 4640m. The climb traverses desolate scree slopes devoid of vegetation. It’s a challenging steep walk, made more difficult by the altitude. Upon arrival at camp, trekkers eat and rest in preparation for the long night and day ahead. Staying hydrated and warm is crucial. An early dinner is followed by an attempt to sleep, as the climb to the summit begins between 11pm and 12am.
Barafu Camp (4640m) to UHURU PEAK (5895m) & down to Mweka Camp (3100m)
Mount Kilimanjaro - The ascent begins around midnight, climbing steeply to the summit glaciers. The climb involves 4 to 5 hours on scree, gaining significant height over a short distance. The views are breathtaking. The crater rim at Stella Point (5739m) is reached as the first rays of the sun appear. Surrounded by spectacular ice cliffs within the crater, the views of jagged Mawenzi peak and beyond are awe-inspiring. Another hour’s walk leads to the summit, Uhuru Peak (5895m). The descent begins by returning to Stella Point, then continuing down the scree slope and track back to Barafu Camp for breakfast, before finally descending to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest.
Trek Mweka Camp (3100m) to Mweka Gate (1630m) - Moshi
Mount Kilimanjaro - A gentle trek descends through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where park formalities are completed and certificates are awarded, ready to be displayed with pride! Vehicles then transport trekkers back to the hotel in Moshi, where a refreshing shower and celebratory cold drinks await. Overnight accommodation is arranged at the hotel.

The Lemosho Route is often regarded as the premier path on Mount Kilimanjaro. In the past, climbers primarily used two main routes: the Marangu (Coca Cola) route and the Machame (Whiskey) route. However, with the growth of Tanzania’s tourism sector, the Kilimanjaro park authority introduced additional trails to Africa’s tallest mountain.
Lemosho, a relatively new path, is favored by esteemed operators for its scenic beauty, seclusion, and high success rate. It significantly enhances the likelihood of climbers reaching the summit and having an enjoyable experience. The Lemosho route can be completed in as few as six days (five nights) on the mountain.
