Marangu Gate To Mandara Hut
Mount Kilimanjaro - Following breakfast, the journey begins with a drive to Marangu gate. After completing the necessary paperwork, the trek commences, leading through the lush rainforest.
In addition to the remarkable vegetation, there is an opportunity to spot some primates on the way to Mandara Hut.
After a well-deserved rest, the guide can accompany you to the Maundi Crater, offering a splendid view of the Kenyan interior.
Mandara Hut To Horombo Hut
Mount Kilimanjaro - The day starts with an early breakfast. Shortly after departing from Mandara Hut, the timberline is reached, leading into the heath and moor zone. Approximately 4 – 6 hours later, Horombo Hut appears, situated at an altitude of 3700m.
From the hut, there are breathtaking views of Mawenzi, Kibo, and the expansive Masai steppe.
Horombo Hut To Kibo Hut
Mount Kilimanjaro - Today’s journey is long and challenging. The well-maintained trail passes the “Last Water point” and continues through the “saddle,” a nearly vegetation-free plateau connecting the main summit Kibo with Mawenzi.
The destination for today is Kibo Hut, typically reached in about 5 - 6 hours. Here, an early evening meal is served, followed by an early night, as the night will be brief.
Kibo Hut To Uhuru Peak & Down To Horombo Hut
Mount Kilimanjaro - Today marks “The Big Day” - the summit stage. The final ascent begins around midnight and is long and demanding. Passing the Hans Meyer Cave at 5220m, the climb steadily progresses upwards. At sunrise, Gillman’s Point (5681m) is reached – the crater rim of Kilimanjaro – where the sun gradually warms the land.
The cold of the night is soon forgotten, and after an additional 1 - 2 hour hike, Uhuru Peak at 5895m is reached. Upon returning to Kibo Hut, a warm meal awaits, followed by a 1 - 2 hour rest before continuing back down to Horombo Hut.
Horombo Hut To Marangu Gate
Mount Kilimanjaro - The final stage traverses the heath and moor zone to Mandara Hut (2700m), where a warm lunch is prepared. Soon, the tropical rainforest is passed once more, and after a total of 6 hours of trekking, Kilimanjaro National Park Gate (1860m) is reached.
After bidding farewell to the mountain guides, a short transfer takes you back to your hotel in Moshi. There, a warm and relaxing shower awaits, along with the opportunity to celebrate the achievement of reaching Kilimanjaro’s summit.

Marangu Route
Often referred to as the “Coca-Cola” route, the Marangu route is a traditional trek on Mount Kilimanjaro. It is the oldest and most established path. Many choose the Marangu route because it is considered the easiest path on the mountain due to its gentle incline. It is also the only route that provides dormitory-style sleeping huts.
The minimum duration for this route is five days, although the likelihood of reaching the summit within this timeframe is quite low. It is highly advisable to spend an additional day acclimatizing on the mountain when using the Marangu route to climb Kilimanjaro.
Despite its widespread popularity, we do not lead climbs on the Marangu route. It offers the least scenic diversity of all the routes, as both the ascent and descent follow the same path, making it the most crowded route. Marangu is preferred mainly during the rainy season when the hut accommodations are more desirable.
